For my own sake and fun I am thinking about emulating strictly opto (vactrol or optocell) or varimu compressor inside Reaktor. Where would I found some papers/thesis on math concepts behind either one of the models?

Edit: I must point out I am familiar with basic concepts of compression and I've made compressors before, so I am searching for more geeky and tech heavy papers, not some general articles on opto compression (I've seen them all :) )

Hopped over to Google Scholar and found the patent for optical compressors: https://www.google.com/patents/US4459557

Also this article from the 60's describing the new concept, but it looks like you may need to make an account: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/7262276/

Not a compressor bit but, yonks ago, when I was looking at vactrol models I found this useful

I believe the authors now work at NI and Arturia :)

James F. Lawrence' article (the IEEE one) is available here at the end of the LA2A manual.
