I went to the king of guitar shops in Exeter. They had strats for 3 grand. f**ked up pain worn rubbed fretboard. And the nice new spanking paint jobs were 899 quid.

Wake up and smell the patchouli.

The one that always pops in my mind was George Harrison's Gretsch:

I played Adam Ant's White Falcon. Got a bit worried when the bridge snapped and the strings fell down. Marco said 'don't worry'. Geezer.

Anyway, no one likes a name dropper. Especially at kvr.

Here's to 'full of life' Billy. Bless him. The fire in his eyes.

f**k yeah. That is it!

Ok, Gibson 3: Fender 2.

There are no other players in the game.

There are only Fender and Gibson.

I think the 335 might be the fifth guitar.

Guitar at a level I could learn, but never quite master.

The main reason, apart from Sabbath and Iommi, why I rate the SG amongst the top 5 ever guitars.

Malcolm, get well soon.

He switched to Les Pauls as soon as he cared more about sound than image. I'm guessing he played Les Paul's on "Electric" and only had the Gretsch for show.

Mind you, I love the sound of Gretsch's, that just doesn't fit what he was going for after those first two albums.

edit - Man, listening to Wild Flower right now, it's so good. This mix would never pass in today's world, every lyric would be clear and upfront (unnecessarily so, I'd say) and the hihats and guitars would all be time corrected. The kick is surprisingly massive, though, which I guess might have something to do with Rick Rubin's hip hop background.

Huh, you busted him good. He was always a flyer. Flying by the seats of his pants.

The Gearslutz love for him is based on romanticism. is m ismz iczmi zi iz. I think. Hic.

How could one man rule so much, through such divergent and diverse music forms such as metal and rap and country and f**king western. Unless someone was taking the piss. But it's ok, some of us were taking notice. And it is funny. yes it is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kid_Chaos

Kid Chaos also known as Haggis (born Stephen Harris) is a British rock bassist and guitarist who played in incarnations of hard rock bands Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction, The Cult, and The Four Horsemen as well as guesting with Appetite for Destruction era Guns N' Roses.

History

Harris was born in 1966, in Swansea, Wales.

Haggis is something of a hero to us. Born in the same year and the same town as me, I guess that is as close as I get to fame.

I saw the Cult in Doras. Dirty Doras. f**k it was not good. It was a sort of homecoming, what with Doras being in Swansea and all that.

It's not the sort of thing you admit to friends, so I don't know why I am telling you this now.

I think this joke has gone far enough.

Yes it has.

Post

Never mind. This is all you need to know:

The greatest rock band ever. The greatest singer, the greatest guitarist.

The greatest songs.

How else did you think they made more money than the rest of them put together?

"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"

If you're havin' trouble with the high school head
He's givin' you the blues
You wanna graduate but not in his bed
Here's what you gotta do
Pick up the phone, I'm always home
Call me any time
Just ring 36 24 36 hey
I lead a life of crime

Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)

You got problems in your life of love
You got a broken heart
He's double dealin' with your best friend
That's when the teardrops star fella
Pick up the phone, I'm here alone
Or make a social call
Come right in, forget 'bout him
We'll have ourselves a ball hey

Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)
Yeahhh

If you got a lady and you want her gone
But you ain't got the guts
She keeps naggin' at you night and day
Enough to drive you nuts
Pick up the phone, leave her alone
It's time you made a stand
For a fee, I'm happy to be
Your back door man hey

Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap) yeah
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)

Concrete shoes, cyanide, TNT
(Done dirt cheap)
Neck ties, contracts, high voltage
(Done dirt cheap)

Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, do anything you want me to
Done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, dirty deeds, dirty deeds,
Done dirt cheap, ahhhhh

I understand the relic things, but I'd never want one. I mean, in the eyes of anybody who isn't a guitarist it just makes you look old and poor because you play an instrument that's beat up and not shiny. I'd never want an actual vintage guitar for the same reason, either. I do have a 1958 bass that looks pretty beat up, and it's a total old people instrument, but it doesn't make me look poor so it's OK.

Can anyone explain how Susanna Hoffs got a Rickenbacker Signature? That one has always puzzled me.

Have you ever seen her? Hell, I'd give her as many signature guitars as she wanted!

Although I'd assume that it's a good bet that her signature guitar sells well to female guitarists.
