If that's kikkeli then kikkeli is good :tu:

I really like your melodies, man! And your psy sounds are great as well. Now please make a full-length track of it.

Just fell on the floor laughing

"the shadow of kikkeli stands over my shoulder".. Oevoe.

Easily. Nice hypnotic IMO but maybe lacks some progression. Which I think is fixed with those forementioned breaks and risers etc :tu:

Familiar place. I check it out monthly :tu:

Thanks a lot for checking it out guys!

I'll start working on the structure then. :) Yeah it lacks a lot, and a sensible progression and resolution to the lead melody, that modulation was a live pass and needs some thinking.

It's awesome to see old synths in a new light, I'm especially stoked about building with Reaktor Blocks for lead synths. I haven't used that side of Reaktor as much I wanted originally since monosynth isn't terribly useful in ambient, but I feel it could be awesome for psy.

Do you use Blocks, or are wavetable synths the big thing now?

Post

I don't use Blocks since I don't have them but I see no reason why you shouldn't use them.

Unlike some other genres, no thing is especially "big" in psy, people use whatever they have and are comfortable with. My synth of choice for pretty much everything is Virus TI, but I also love Spire, Rapid, Diversion, Discovery Pro and Massive (so mostly wavetable and VA stuff, no software or hardware modulars, no dedicated FM synth either, but I often use FM or FM like sounds made with the above synths)

I have too many synths. I have VA's, digitals, wavetables, granulars, modulars, vectorials, additives, romplers, FM's, sample based synths, hardware... All they have their pros and cons. And I use them all. Mixing them up in layers is the best part since part of the sounds are something that can't be achieved with other type of synthesis (or at least it's freaking difficult). Some VA bottom, wavetable mids and shimmering additive tops ^^

Fair enough, variety is good :)

I've been trying to keep my setup sort of minimal or manageable, I use mainly Reaktor 6 with Beatzille, Aalto, and Zebralette and sometimes DuneCM for low cpu basic sounds. Bazille is on the shopping list and Serum is interesting, but I don't feel a rush to add anything atm. I'll probably get some small and cheap hardware before new plugins.

Serum is now widely used in psy. I'm going to pick it up myself (decided in favour of it over Avenger)

On the other hand, it may make sence to avoid using it in order not to sound like everyone else ;)

Here a guy shows his psytrance project made only with Bazille

Some of these really do sound like Serum, especially with digitally clean resonant sweeps.

Serum is just a very good synth overall ;)
