One more thing: if you question your hearing and notion it's not what it used to be:
GO SEE A DOCTOR !!!
15 years ago I feared the tinnitus was really kicking in and I was going deaf in one ear. The doctor had a look, simply rinsed that ear with some luke-warm water, and out came some ear wax blocking the canal. It could be that simple...

Shortage of oxygen supply (sleep apnea) may also be a cause.Frankly, i rather think most tinnitus' rather have to do with a shortage of circulation in the middle ear, than with too much noise. At least, it's surely the case in my case.

my hearing is compromised somewhat. I keep my guitars amps at relatively low levels and my monitoring the same.
I've also invested in the kickstarter project Audeara and expect to have four sets of headphones arrive in september/october if things stick to the timetable.
The headphones have an inbuilt microprocessor that allows the owner to run an audio hearing test within the system. It's selectable from seven bands to 32 bands and tests both ears separately. The software then adjusts the frequencies of any audio input signal to correct for personal hearing issues you may have. You have the option of selecting presets focussing speech clarity, music, movies etc...
The headphones have four user slots from memory...
The audio test is repeatable over the months/years you have access to the headphones..a neat way of keeping track of any developing hearing issues you may have.
