I really like all of the bass on America’s debut. Beckley and Peek weren’t really bass players, but maybe that’s why it sounds outside the box and fresh.

Always loved Joy Division's bass - so innovative at the time the way they used it to structure the whole song, melody and rhythm. Although very different musically I felt this had more in common with 70's funk and disco than rock - something that later bands like A Certain Ratio and to an extent New Order more explicitly referenced
