OK here all the nkis and sfzs in one small folder and all the samples in another folder.

Thanks for all the kind responses!

Hey hueynym. Thanks for checking. I'm trying to go with the compressed samples for my own Kontakt 5 City Pianos because they use less memory when loaded, 200 megs versus 500 megs on the City Piano. As usual I haven't named things well. I think you are thinking of the Full Piano, I did sometime ago based on the University of Iowa Steinway samples. These are my own Baldwin samples.
Also I need to get back to the piano waltz piano samples. Thanks for reminding me.
These were my playlists for free kontakt pianos, purchased kontakt pianos and free VSTi pianos. I need to update them and find the ones from the nice chap who contributed so many love PianoTeq ones and others (oops didn't know the nice chap was you hueynym). I'll do a whole thread about it fairly soon.

Thanks, yes, that's me - confusing "City Piano Full Version" with "Full Piano" - Isn't the first time, won't be the last...

The link to my WurfulSpiel test pieces are @

I've also added a few new pianos to my library, so will update that page soon as well...

Thanks again for all your work!

I named them poorly. Naming something Full Piano was silly, it just never struck me I'd be making any more pianos. Thanks for your piano demos they are great!
On the subject of demos. I've been impressed by all the recent free kontakt pianos and of course I always like to show off. So here are demos of the most recent free kontakt pianos using this Poor Butterfly medley I like so much. Forgive me putting so many versions of my own in there.

Just curious about the Mkhitaryan Grand Piano Patch - is this done with the adjustments you made to it (from the Mkhitaryan thread), or is this "out of the box"

Post

I forgot about that. Yes it was with my adjustments.

Sorry, not trying to be dense, but when you say "used the kontakt factory piano preset for modulation" what exactly do you mean? Is it somewhere in the 57 pages of references to "modulation" in the manual? (and, if so, where?) Thanks for your help.

Post

No problem. I'm impressed you looked at the manual. I just start a new thread with a question and Evil Dragon or another KVRer answers it.
Go to Group Editor and select Edit All Groups.
Go to the bottom of the page and you should see Modulation.
There is a volume envelope under this.
Under Preset, choose, Factory and then Piano.
Deselect Edit all Groups. (trust me you don't want it on)
Save and boom you are set.

+1

Oh and a bump to say the "mirror" site is up: http://www.drealm.info/kontakt/bigcat/.

Thank you for hosting the piano. Long after I'm mouldering away the young whippersnappers can remember when Kontakt was numbered in single instead of triple digits and some weird guy made Shoot the Piano and other piano type noises. Then you and your robot band can dedicate one of your Tent / Analoguio / Norway hits to my memory.

Thank you quite sincerely to everyone who has tried out this piano and everyone who helped in its construction and distribution. I'm quite confused but happy.

Don't forget to thank yourself for making it.

BTW, the thought occurred to me: how in the hell is sympathetic resonance modeled? Any idea? Is it from using the existing note-on samples in conjunction with clever scripting? Are these other samples?

If it's just scripting, why doesn't someone make a "sympathetic resonance" script that people could buy and add-on to existing pianos? Heck, throw in some generic features like pedal down noise, or even release samples (things that could be simulated successfully across multiple pianos) and you'd have a "turn your boring old piano library into a shiny new library with extra realism" type product. Someone should get on that (Evildragon perhaps?). I'd buy it.

I've seen some scripts that try sympathetic resonance, but the only one or two I found either didn't work, or created clicking. Anyway...just thinking out loud.

Post

Evil Dragon did, indeed, do something about using IR for sympathetic resonance and his d/l link on another thread for the "intimate piano" from VI Control forums. "Intimate Piano - Cosy Resonances" was the file and I d/led it on the 18th of Jan. - not sure which thread, but it was either "Intimate Piano" or "Headroom Piano" both done by the same guy (but not bigcat1969) Evil Dragon wrote instructions in his post, but it's just so obviously above me (I get kinda lost just after I press the "Pay Here" button on every website) If you can't find the thread before I have time to look for it, I'll try doing a search again...

Hope this helps.

Here's the link to topic to which Evil Dragon responded:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 5#p5618123

He goes on to say "you just need to add three convolution reverbs as I did at the end of insert FX chain and do the MIDI CC automations as they're in Auto tab (notice that I changed the From and To values to reduce the range within the CC operates)."

Not sure what the difference is between using Insert FX or SendFX (as the City Piano Convoluted does)

Anyway, hope this helps - it's certainly eye-opening for me...

I tried to use the example nki he gave, but it crashed on my every time.

OK got working and I pilfered it, though I'm not sure I got it right as I don't have any pedals.

All hail your Evilness.
Thanks for unwittingly teaching me about the Auto tab and how to use it and for creating an interesting reverb for me to steal.

Glad you were able to get it going - I spent a while trying to get screen shots to show you but just couldn't figure out how to put them all together - and now there's no need. I don't have a pedal hooked up on this system, but I'm sure just editing a midi file with the CCs should enable us to hear the potential differences... Mario is a super-duper Evil Genius :)
