The City Piano, a fully sampled Baldwin Baby Grand. Here is the final version for Kontakt 5 with 4 fully sampled velocity layers and release samples. Enjoy.

SFZ thanks to Music Mayor
VSTi This an experimental version as I try to learn Maise.

PL Jones was kind enough to make a website with all these mappings for the City Pianos and the samples as wave files. You need both the samples and the mappings.

All the notes "shoved in there", eh?bigcat1969 wrote:I'll start working on getting all the notes shoved in there.
Well, thank you for this! Will you let us know if you have to move the hosting again once you've updated it?
And which version of Kontakt is this for, 4 or 5?
Thanks again!
Steve

Wow, sounds great for the style of music in the MIDI file. Looking forward to download this one. Would love to hear more details about the library - eg what piano did you sample...
Editing because I forgot to say thank you. Thank you

I'd also like to know which piano you sampled, and how...if you don't mind telling us.Lode_Runner wrote:Wow, sounds great for the style of music in the MIDI file. Looking forward to download this one. Would love to hear more details about the library - eg what piano did you sample...

Thanks Steve. My thought is to leave this version up as a more compact version for those who might want something in the 100 meg size range and then add larger versions as well to the mediafire account. If anyone would like to host any or all versions that would be wonderful.
It uses Kontakt 5. It and all the samples are public domain, if anyone would like to create a Kontakt 4 version or any other version, please do.
Thanks for trying it out, Totolitoto and Coil. Any feedback is much appreciated.
Thanks Lode_Runner and Hi again Steve. It is a fairly old Baldwin Baby Grand so it has a somewhat different feel than all the lovely Yamaha and Steinway Grands that some many folks have done for us. I did a Steinway myself using the University of Iowa samples and it is fun to listen to the difference between the two. This is more a church and classical feel. I also tend to like things dry and clean with the belief that the mixmaster when he works out the final sound can add as much water and dirt as he likes to the final mix.
I'm not actually sure of the mic that's used, it has a mic installed. At some point I'd like to try some velocity layers with a more ambient mic. I'm not sure how this will work as the piano is located in a downtown building without any sound proofing. Hence the name.

My offer for hosting free stuff still stands. If it's just one file then you might just want it sitting under www.drealm.info but you can also have your own micro-site as whatever.drealm.info that you can manage yourself - subject to only free stuff going there.bigcat1969 wrote:If anyone would like to host any or all versions that would be wonderful.

I agree with you there. I also agree that a Baldwin grand would be a nice change, especially with the glut of Yamahas and Steinways out there.bigcat1969 wrote:This is more a church and classical feel. Unfortunately, I have Kontakt 4. And, since I've never made an instrument from scratch in it, this may not work well for me. I certainly appreciate your effort though, and I hope those who can take advantage of this create some nice pieces with it!

Thanks pljones. I must admit to my chagrin that I really haven't gotten web design at all. My limit is uploading to mediafire and soundcloud. I'd love to put my free instruments on your site, but I have no idea how to get them there.
Steve, sorry the Kontakt version won't work for you and thanks for pointing that I need to mention it is for version 5. I'm not sure if it helps, or sounds quite as good, but here is the Sampletank version.

I didn't know there was a SampleTank version, but since I have that, I'll give it a go.
Thanks!

BigCat,
Assuming you're not using any fancy kontakt-specific scripting, might you share the wav samples separately (along with the note /velocity assignments) so I might take a stab at creating an sfz mapping?
Thanks.

Just got back from work and saw your kind offer. I would love to see them in sfz format. I've a buddy who doesn't have kontakt who is always gripping at me to put them in some other format. There are no fancy scripts, basically just the notes. The waves are labeled things like D#4-111-127.wav with the note name followed by the velocity range. I'm not sure how sfz works but hopefully that helps out. The samples are in zip files below. Let me know if this is what you need.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the WAVs and the mapping info. I was able to use them to create a first working version of the SFZ file. (I thought I could attach it to this post, but I cannot; yet it's only a ~12 KB file. Please PM your email so that I might send the file directly to you. Maybe the kind gentleman at http://www.drealm.info/ can ultimately host it).
A few details:
1. I copied all samples into a single folder named 'samples'. When using the SFZ, the 'samples' folder simply needs to be its sibling, i.e.
c:\Users\Bob\Desktop\bigcat1969\Full City Piano.sfz
c:\Users\Bob\Desktop\bigcat1969\samples\*.wav
(The absolute path is NOT hardcoded, so the parent folder name is irrelevant)
2. I renamed 'A7--111-127.wav' to 'A7-111-127.wav' (removed the double dash after A7) so that all sample filenames were consistent.
3. I set the release time for all samples to 0.75s. What did you use in Kontakt?
I tried the SFZ using the old school' rgc:audio SFZ' VSTi (v2.0.0.0) and it worked fine for me. Hopefully we can get some feedback from other SFZ users once you share the file with the community.
