This time instead of sampling myself playing my basses, I sampled the bassist from one of my bands. I mostly listen to music where the bass part is either synth or samples, and she is actually into real music played by real people on real instruments, so her ideas of a good bass tone are much more bassistlike. We called the library "Growlybass" because it has a lot of growly character. It's kind of the opposite of the Swagbass which is all about thud, though we both yank on the strings much harder than most bassists, so we do have that much in common.

I still had fun doing some weird mappings with multiple voices, plus one that's just the string release samples. It goes from recognizable pitches on the higher keys, a bit like a mbira or some other metallic percussion, to rattly noises on the low end.

Edit: the demo will show up on our soundcloud page, but I already put it up on the KVR product page: http://www.kvraudio.com/product/growlybass-by-karoryfer

Thank you for ALL you basses,

I think your sample=staccato\c3_staccato_rr5.wav is off by a semitone ? (lower)

I'll have to check that again - I do remember noticing it sounded odd.

Sure is a half-step lower... sorry about that. Need to make an update...

OK, updated this bass on both the Karoryfer and Audiobombs pages... somehow we really managed to record one B among the Cs, so I just changed the keycenter of that sample and its corresponding release sample from 48 to 47 in the mappings where it was used. I thought that note sometimes sounded odd when I was playing with one of the mappings that trigger multiple samples at once, but never noticed it in the staccato alone mapping, where it would be obvious. Again, sorry about that, and thanks to Yeager for catching the mistake.

:tu: WORKS :tu: Thanks again.

And the demo, finally on Soundcloud. I first used the dirty mapping run through an amp sim (good ol FA3) and a channel strip sim (UltraChannel - grabbed it last month while it was free), then the shifty mapping with FL Studio's resonant low-pass filter, reverb, and compression. Velocity goes up throughout each half, from about 30 to 127.
