Of course the NI website is going to say that any of the Kontakt dependent packages (such as Kinetic Metal or Damage) require some form of Kontakt 5. It's just good marketing.
But does anyone know if some or any of these packages will also operate in Kontakt 4? Didn't some of them come out before Kontakt 5?

Yes, some did, but whenever NI libraries are updated, NI uses the very latest version of Kontakt.
So it is very likely that, now, they will only run in the current version of Kontakt (5.5?).
If you can get hold of the original disks (downloads?) for any of the earlier products then those instruments may well load into Kontakt 4. But tread carefully with any instrument updates.
