For the budget-minded, many of the companies mentioned here have sales at various times of the year (as mentioned above hgsounds.com has one right now - definitely worth checking it out). Some have discounts as much as 40%-50% off during sales so watch out for those. End of year holiday time is probably the best time.

I second Hideaway Studio and Hollow Sun stuff.

You can also make your own instruments in Kontakt; you don't have to script, just add samples and mess them up as desired.

There are also a couple 'instrument template' scripts out there for folk who might want something they can throw their own samples into. Hollowsun has The Shell, there's also Photosynthesis Engine. There was another one called Granulate but its gone commercial now.
