Actually, the UAD PCI cards have been discontinued. They're PCI-Express now, which is still very popular.klagga wrote:And is it just me, but isn't PCI (required for UAD) on its way out?
Lets make a List of native plugins that replace UAD...

Thanks, I admit I didn't know that UAD had a firewirecard. But it would use the one and only available firewire connection in the laptop, which I need for my firewire soundcard, so it won't work anyway.geroyannis wrote:Of course you can put them in a laptop man.

Just to put my 2p in,I don't think the thread is in anyway a dis to UAD.I have a UAD 1 card and love it,but I very quickly get to the point where I have used all the effects that the card can handle. Therefore I need individual back up effects so I can save the UAD for the lead parts.
Something not as expensive as UAD,but hopefully better than Steinbergs Own.
Especially compressors,EQ and a nice reverb alternative would be good too,the reverbs really eat up the cards processing.

No, I certainly read the UA website. The laptop I'll buy will use the expresscard for firewire.9headshydra wrote:you can also admit you don't even read UA website, klagga wrote:Thanks, I admit I didn't know that UAD had a firewirecard. They don't sound that similar. UAD CE-1 is noticeably thicker.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:Why do you use the word circuit when talking about the Helios and Neve EQ's? UA is just modelling filter shapes, not entire circuits.electro wrote:You're really not able to replace
the UAD Manley Massive Passive outboard EQ,
the UAD Fatso Jr,
the UAD Harrison 32C EQ Circuit,
the UAD Moog Multimode Filter,
the UAD Neve 33609 Compressor,
the UAD Cooper Timecube,
the UAD Roland Space Echo,
the UAD Roland Dimension D,
the UAD Helios Type 69 Eq Circuit,
The UAD Neve 1073 EQ circuit,
or the UAD EMT Reverbs
and the UAD CE-1 is still the best Chorus plugin
Also, I would argue that PSP's ClassicQ does the 1073 better than UAD...
And Guido's GS-201 sounds more like a vintage RE-20 than the RE-201....
There's nothing particularly special about the Harrison other than the Auto Q....
And the Amplitube CE-1 sounds extremely close to the UA version. In fact, when I A/B'd the 2, the UA version was just a hair darker...

I am a UAD fan and I don't think they have replacements.
But I want to mention 3:
Stillwell Transient Monster
In my opinion it is better then the UAD SPL Transient Designer
I am supprised it's not on the list!
Stillwell 1973
Very sweet EQ, a little different then the UAD 1073 but just as good IMHO.
Kjaerhus MPL-1 Pro
Again not the same but I prefer it over the UAD Precision Limiter,
also not on the list.
The rest forgetaboutit.... UAD rules.

I'm just going to assume someone already pointed out that dlm Sixtyfive is as good (in my opinion, better) than the UAD dbx 160.

You've tried both then? I have the UAD but I miss the other features.
How is the dlm? How does it handle?
