Tilt EQ options: Boz T-bone vs SlickEQ

I'm in the market for a tilt EQ and I'm torn between T-bone http://www.bozdigitallabs.com/product/t-bone/ & SlickEQ GE http://www.tokyodawn.net/tdr-vos-slickeq-ge/

Now obviously SlickEQ GE offers way more functions / features than just tilt EQ, and thus is probably better overall value, but I'm curious if someone like me who already owns many other EQ plugins if its overkill when all I'm really looking for is a nice Tilt EQ. Plus it seems the T-bone offers nice additional features like the "boom / harsh" controls and most importantly a MIX control, which does not seem to be available on the SlickEQ. I find mix controls very helpful, as its sometimes cool to do extreme EQing and the just blend some in with the original signal, rather than a full replace. I personally wish all plugins had a mix control. :)

That being said, SlickEQ does offer a ton of functionality and features. I like the idea of having an actual Mid/side EQ, rather than being forced to use a mid/side encoder / decoder which takes up valuable insert slots (run Cubase so I'm limited to 8 inserts per channel - lame I know!). Edit: Looks like T-bone also does Mid/side. I also love plugins that have good auto gain adjustments as I'm weak and often fall victim to the "louder is better" syndrome.

So I'm torn, and it seems neither plugin has a full demo so I can't really give them a go myself, so any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. That is assuming you find tilt EQ's that helpful at all in practice (if not I'd love to hear why as well). :-)

I never heard of a 'tilt' eq before seeing the Slick thing - what is that?

Tilt EQ is basically a seesaw EQ where you can quickly "tilt" the EQ around a specific frequency. For example if a sound is overall too dark, you can run a tilt EQ at say 1k and it will simultaneously boost above 1k while cutting below 1k. I think of it as just a quick EQ when I need some general shaping (i.e. this needs to be brighter or this needs to be darker). Kind of a nice first insert type EQ where you can use HP LP filters and some tilt to get the sound in the ballpark you're looking for, then go to town with specific EQ as necessary later.

Dont know if that helps at all, lol. AFAIK its nothing that can't be done with multi-band EQ's, but its just quicker as you only have to move the frequency and amount, instead of having to adjust multiple EQ bands.

Yeah thanks, after posting that question I had a look on the T-Bone site and it answers the same question:

What is a Tilt EQ?
A tilt EQ is a filter that simultaneously boosts one end of the frequency spectrum while attenuating the other end. As it turns out this is an amazingly useful tool for brightening or darkening your tracks very quickly. Another reason this is super handy is that it allows you to change the tone of your track without changing the overall level. With traditional EQ plugins, as you boost certain frequencies, the overall sound gets louder. The problem with this is that our brains have the screwy little feature where louder music tends to sound better (even if it actually sounds worse. Make sense?). A tilt EQ works around that special feature in our brain so that you aren’t deceived by the changing level and you can know instantly if your are improving or worsening your sound.

As satisfied customer of boz digital labs, I just want to share my quick T-Bone demonstration video.
(not the best song for this season, but enjoy nonetheless)
I just like SlickEQ GE also very much, nearby.

Also, this:

Dude, this is KVR! Ask for an opinion on one (or two) plugins and you get spammed with suggestions for other plugins :D
If you want a versatile one, take the SlickEQ, for a simple free one the Elysia is a good choice.

Thinking about it can't you do this sort of thing in Uhbik Q?

The tilts are apparently pretty different. T-Bone is a lot lighter weight, too. IOW, Slick has more features, but CPU hit is higher and there's a bit of delay. T-Bone is great for tracking.

I'm very enthusiastic about T-Bone. If you use Tilt EQs a lot, like I do, it's beautiful in every way

The GUI of T-Bone is very interesting.
The blue area shows the EQ curve.
I like it.

GET BOTH.

They are both fantastic.
The GE does a LOT more than just tilt.
T-Bone does the tilt thing really well.

TAL-USE (Ultra Simple EQ) is free and is just a tilter and a good one too.

Doesn't seem to work in Tracktion 5 (the TAL one that is) - you can't touch the gui - nothing moves

This plug should be labeled "WARNING ! CONVEX INTERFACE AHEAD ! wear your 3D glasses and pray for the best..."

Miller makes really good plugs... but the 3D thing is just :uhuhuh: :uhuhuh:
