Hi all
I've been out of this game for, ooh, a looking while (even have a slightly amended username!), but am making tentative steps back into it.
I've got EnergyXT back up and running, but having a look through my VST folders, everything looks a bit, well, old.
I'm sure that there will be many best freeware reverb/delay/compression/etc threads on here but what about the bitcrushers, freq delays, buffers etc?
Or have there been any new advances in FSU'erry in the last, um, eight(??) years?
Oh, and a biiiiiig "Hi!" to anybody who remembers me!

Did a search for bitcrushers for you, since I couldn't remember which one was new(It's Tritik Krush). I guess I'll be trying it out along with you http://freevsts.com/listing-category/bitcrushers/ oh, I'm not sure what FSU is besides Florida State University, so maybe you are looking for something specific?

Hey Spacekid
Thanks for the reply
Not sure of the current swearword policy, but basically, FSU = audio mangling.
I'm kinda after opinions on the effects that can't really be classified as "the best" at what they do as they may be unique or just make a plain horrible sound - it's all subjective!
Like the fact that Tritik Krush is described as "lively" on its site! Thanks for the recommended - I'll definitely check it out!

Are you the guy from Yorkshire I used to talk about gabba and grime with on here circa 2004? Hello again if so. And if not, hello anyway!
Try DTblkFX. It's an excellent spectral effect with a ton of transformations. Try super long windows (if there's a star next to your selected window size, you need to increase the plugin delay which is controlled manually) for maximum droning damage, and try using transforms in conjunction with the masking modules for more subtle processing.

Hey cron
Yep, that would've been me. My music tastes havn't really changed that much, maybe a bit more into free jazz now. How are you?
Oh yeah DTblkFX - I mustn't have backed that one up. That's the one with the spectral display and all the harmonic shifting fun. It was ace - thanks for reminding me of it!

Try Thesis II as well, if you like granular glitchy stuff.
And I believe there is also a plugin called Lost Technology, which is probably the craziest glitch type plugin on the freeware market.

Oh man, how could I forget?
CDP (Composers Desktop Project) went freeware two or three years back. It's janky and a bit of an arse to use (not difficult, more perfectly straightforward yet still annoying) but I've adored it nevertheless ever since dropping my £200 (ish) down. It's been a bit of a secret weapon for me over the last decade and a bit. KVR member Xenakios is currently working on a new frontend that shows incredible promise however.
Get the core download here: http://www.unstablesound.net/cdp.html
Use it in conjunction with this graphical frontend: http://www.ensemble-software.net
Read more about the software here: http://www.composersdesktop.com
And check out the KVR thread on the subject that includes a lot of musings from me and teasers of Xenakios' replacement frontend work in progress: viewtopic.php?t=446446
I recommend having a look through the Soundshaper manual too as it gives a fairly comprehensive, if not exhaustive, overview of the kind of transforms available. There are loooooots... Many of which can be easily done with real time plug-ins in 2016, many of which remain unique.
