I've recently started mixing in mono along with stereo. Earlier I only worked with stereo but I realised that my tracks sound horrible on mono. I layered some claps with my kicks to give it some click and these claps have a compression with moderate attack that acts like a sidechain. It sounds the way I want it to in the stereo field but when I turn it to mono it sounds horrible and weak. It's supposed to be a main element. My track sounds very different in mono and stereo because of this clap, how do I fix this problem?

Either use mono clap, or...

Layer 3+ mono claps with one panned left, one right and one in a middle. They will sound wide but not cancel in phase or dissapear in any situation.
