Sound Design:Hard hitting stabs

I've spent hours already trying to figure out how this stab sound was made. I think it is a chord (probably low passed filtered saws) or maybe just the reverb tail of a chord layered with a percussion sound.

The percussion sound is probably overdriven or saturated. But what kind of percussion is it? I've tried various kick drums, timpani and wood block sounds - pitched up and down - but with no success. The spectrum analyzer tells me that the low end comes in later than the high end but that's as far as I came... Any help is much appreciated!
