High pass everything, then brickwall it, and do it again until all you have is distorted white noise. Then put a high shelf on that and boost it to the max. Then limit it again.

At least once in your life you should have done this!

My advice echoes those above. Forget about mastering and focus purely on mixing.

I think the method of highpassing absolutely everything except kick/bass and then lowpassing the master really low (18khz or less)... is really extreme. If you're gunning for a spot on the Beatport EDM charts and puposely the limiter at the expense of dynamics, then sure - but otherwise maybe go easy on all the filtering For instance snares, crash cymbals and hihats sound more natural with SOME actual sound content under 200hz intact, heh!

Yes, and: You mostly need to use shelving filters, no need to clear ALL of the low or highend usually.MogwaiBoy wrote:I think the method of highpassing absolutely everything except kick/bass and then lowpassing the master really low (18khz or less)... is really extreme. This article is amazing. Thanks for sharing!neverwhere2410 wrote:It may or may not help, but I stumbled on this guide yesterday that a guy on reddit wrote. It focuses on mastering and I found the parts on EQ'ing during the mastering process to be really helpful. He leans on specific plugins, but I found it pretty easy to translate the concepts to various plugins I already own.
