Midi on Mac will be introduced in 1.2.0. We have a beta version available on our downloads page if you'd like like to give it a test drive.

Zyn GUI is broken on Mac. This hasn't been fixed with 1.2.0, we need help on this.
Can the Mac version load regular 'windows' VSTs?
EDIT: nevermind, I think I asked a really dumb question

I'll wait till it's fixed then, my main reason for trying it was to access a version of ZynSub that actually works on Mac and doesn't require Jack which is a PITA.

I'm not affiliated with the guys who compiled these dlls. I just found out that they work, and do have ASIO support! (both 32bit and 64bit!!)
Well, you've gone out of your way to research and explain how to fix this retroactively as well as cross-post the solution in multiple places. We're just a bunch of volunteers fixing problems and improving software. We need help from people like you to fix this stuff permanently.

Back on topic... we're doing beta testing of 1.2.0-RC1. Snag it from our downloads section...

Y U NO SUPPORT 10.6.8
Well, we offer 10.7 support, which should work 1-version back on 10.6 according to everything I've read about XCode.

Our brew recipe is pretty easy to use, but if you opt for Qt5, it has compat issues with anything 10.7 or older, so you'd have to use Qt4.

Anyway, this is better left for our issue tracker.

Not yet. https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/issues/698

Yeah, ours works very well but the code which opens up the GUI has a hard crash, so we've disabled the button. It's probably a one-liner but we don't have a lot of Mac users on our dev team.

If you know someone that can help, please direct them to this bug report:

Well, it doesn't unfortunately...

Apple OS X (10.7 "Lion" or higher)
That's from the link you left, so again, it doesn't work on 10.6 whatever your response means...

10.7 is horrible if not the worst OS X there is, not many people are using it even if it's maximum they can, it's just resource hog even if it's more supported app's wise, doesn't worth it, so many on older machines are on 10.6, because it's seriously one of the best OS X versions, if not the best, so if you could support that actually, that would be great for majority of "stuck with legacy" users, if not, than just support last 3 versions because that's what people actually use, their machines are good for it anyways.

Since you went back and edited your post, I had missed the majority of the points you were trying to make

I can't engage in the part about the "best OS X version", I simply don't have the experience to agree or disagree although I appreciate the feedback. I haven't seen these sentiments on our bug tracker, but the last time backward compat was brought up, 10.7 is what was requested, so that's the platform which was targeted.

The specific article linked was written my me, exactly as a developer using 10.7 would setup his build environment, dependencies, compile, etc. It might work with 10.6, but it's contents simply haven't been verified on an older OS X version. The codebase wasn't specifically written for 10.6, so your mileage may vary. For example, if using MacPorts, I believe there's a bug with the way we use iterators in our code, but there's a work-around here. This doesn't seem to be needed when building using Homebrew.

So to summarize, I'm not sure how far back (in regards to OS X versions) the compilation will go, but I'm the sole author of that wiki article, and we've had MacPorts request some changes for older architectures, so it may still work.

Personally, I have no immediate plans to change my build environment to 10.6, so if you're interested in becoming our new Mac package maintainer, we can discuss adding this support. If not, we'll continue to aim for 10.7 or higher.
