How can you use multiple audio programs and midi programs at the same time and all let them use the same audio device?
I plan using a Microsoft surface 4 and want to run Cubase AI, Band in a Box, Varranger, and some Deejay software.. All have audio out and some have midi in and out... My sound device has a single output, there is a single midi connection from my keyboard to the Microsoft device..
Rewire is not an option as Varranger does not support it..
Now i want all software running at the same time... And switching between them in real time based on my needs.
( currently have a macbook, so i am not wellknown with the use of Windows as a daw)

Supposedly, W10 has a new API that supports multi-client capability:

I'm sure you can find many other articles about W10 audio. As a fall back plan, there is always ASIO4ALL, but I'm not sure how well it has been adapted to W10. Personally, I don't use it, or W10, and instead use my AI's ASIO on W7.
But when you say "all at the same time", I think you mean "all running but only one porting audio to my sound card at a time."
If so, this should not be a problem. Business as usual.
However, and this I do not know if W10 offers, in the past one had to set up their AI properties to "NOT allow programs to take exclusive use of the device". This was simply a matter of unchecking an option on the device's properties tab:

If you want to port MIDI between programs into the DAW then use virtual MIDI cables:
loopMIDI - http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/
loopbe - http://nerds.de/en/loopbe1.html
CopperLAN - http://www.copperlan.org/
I am very hopeful all in my set up changes to W10 smoothly. Remains to be seen but I am unaware of any reason why not.
As for moving from Mac to Windows - it's a bit of a transition and takes some to learn and understand. Mac is much more "plug-n-play" (maybe "was" much more at this time ) than Windows but, you can do as much with Windows as can be done with Mac. Just be patient.
Good luck
