I am using MuLab 5. There are many effects that I can to my recordings. Is there a source document which outlines what each effect does and explains simply how to use it?

OK, you did say....just a couple of quick ones, more to follow I am afraid!
Compression - is it best before or after other effects? Or before or after the white triangle, pre/post fader?
What is the difference between Compression and Compression with sidechain?
What is AutoFilter and what does it do?
Sorry to be such a dunce but would really appreciate your help on this.

Open the modular editor and have a look at the patch.What is AutoFilter and what does it do?
That explains what it does, no?
In short: The filter cutoff is controlled by the audio level.
Note that i'll ask you to learn things yourself too.Sorry to be such a dunce but would really appreciate your help on this.
Then i'll surely answer the questions that you can't answer yourself.
