I have a song on tape that means a lot to me. It's a band rehearsal from years ago, of a song called 'Legend'. An uplifting synth fest (Crumar spirit a plenty) which we wrote about that very hedonistic nightclub in Manchester. The story behind it is that, there were three majors vying to release the song, but we held out as the MD of the chain that owned Legend, decreed it the "best song he'd ever heard", and was promising us a fortune for ownership. It never came of course, and that's another (rather boring) tale. All that is left is this 3 minute cassette of a rehearsal. A great performance, definitely, and the very one that courted interest, but ... the years have taken their toll on the media and it sounds rough as hell. I would dearly love someone to bring it back to life. I have tried, but failed miserably. Would anyone have the time/inclination to have a go at this for me?

I don't know much about these things, but: Did you try software that's available for restoration of old vinyl records? The only supplier I know is Magix, it's a suite with all kinds of functionality to clean up tracks...

Uhm. Atleast you still have got the song, that way you can always re-record it. I miss plenty of my old songs :)

Thing is that band dynamic was fantastic. I could rerecord the tune, but it would pale into comparison.

As for my own stuff, well, I put hours and hours in to get all the stuff I had on cassette onto CD. Even the dodgy tapes with bits of melody on etc. I see them not just as pieces of music, but as little time capsules in their own right. Particularly the punk rehearsal tapes I have, when we are all crap musicians but full of soul. Priceless. 8)
