I have this keyboard http://www.casio.com/products/Musical_I ... _Features/ (http://www.casio.com/products/Musical_Instruments/Workstation/WK-3300/content/Main_Features/)

and I want to make it so I can use this keyboard to play the sounds off of this compact synthesizer.

My keyboard only has USB out and there is no USB in port on the synthesizer. Is there anyway for me to use my keyboard as a controller for the synthesizer or am I out of luck?

It is unlikely that you can play one with the other via USB directly, as they are from two different manufacturers and as far as I know there is no USB standard for MIDI in that sense.

If you plug them both in to your computer, they should appear as Midi / Audio devices, and you can then configure your DAW software (i.e. Cubase, Fruity Loops, Logic <whatever>) to send notes from the master keyboard using "THRU" mode to the slave device playing the sounds. i.e the notes need to go through your computer from once device to the other.

If you don't have a DAW, you can try Reaper which has a free demo license, or find a standalone MIDI application that will do simple THRU routing for you. Should be plenty of free ones out there, just Google it.

Does that help?

Peace,
Andy.

That might work. I will give it a try when I have the chance.

I was just wondering if there was any device I could use to make this happen because I wouldn't be able to bring a computer or a laptop with me when I do something live.

I thought there might be a device that has a usb input that I can plug my keyboard into and a MIDI output that I could go through and plug into the synthesizers midi in port.

I know they have USB to MIDI cables, but the USB part of the cable has the incorrect end. I wonder if there are such cables that use the other end of the USB cable.

I don't think so, after a little research.
Please understand that this is coming from someone who quotes Terry Pratchett - Melkor

You could get one of these: http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20060426/super-small-pc/
But a proper master keyboard with a genuine Midi Out port is probably cheaper / easier (especially when bought second-hand)

An Asus EEE pc + midi adaptor would be better (has display) and is way cheaper. A number of people here use them.
