Audio recordings too loud and distorted

Hi, I posted this phenomenon in the past but did not find a solution.
Is there a way to influence the sound level of line-in recording within Mulab?
I often use Audacity to record straight from my keyboard and that works without problems. Audacity does not use ASIO4ALL and has a slider to monitor the sound level of the recording.
I looked up the settings of my sound card, but the line-in slider is really low, so that cannot be the source. I turned the volume knob of my keyboard as low as possible, but the recording stays way too loud causing a very unpleasant distortion.

Rob, it's not that easy to say what's wrong as i can't see what you're doing.

Maybe try turning off the auto normalize feature in the recording options dialog. Then the recorded audio will stay at the exact level as you recorded it.

If the distortion than still is there, you must find at what point in the audio stream the distortion occurs. Just follow the audio from source to destination, eventually insert (a) Mixer Strip(s) in the audio stream to monitor the level.

Thanks for your reply.
I looked up everything but did not see anything alarming.
Then I changed the setting "MONITOR TO" and set it to MASTER in stead of NONE.
Miracle: Perfect audio recording!
