I'm absolutely surprised at the straightforwardness of some people here - I've read many things that personally I wouldn't tell in an "anonymous" forum...

And at the same time I'm reasoning if I should tell something of me. If I would, it could only be ONE point of view (on my life), and to tell my whole story, I could write 1000 pages or more!

So I don't know, maybe I write once I have found a way to report something (interesting) of my life in a few sentences...

Oh I'm forthright by compulsion. That's part of why I suck at being a successful American capitalist.

Also, there's already a hate blog dedicated to slandering me and all people with neurological disorders, so there's very little left to lose.

I think it's different depending on cultural background, and other reasons as well.
Some cultures show more willingness to be more open than others, and it's also individual choice there too.
I've been learning a lot about Germany lately, and I've found that being soft spoken, and not speaking too much about personal things is the way to go there.
There's a show here called "Made in Germany" that I really like watching.
Which is about the culture and business there.
I believe there is different ways that different cultures express themselves with language. More open about personal stuff, is completely standard from where I'm from. But people from other places, may not feel the same.

i guess some people are more open, not a problem if others arent, its our differences that make us interesting
as it is an anonymous forum on the whole, its nice sometimes to get some insight in to those youre talking to
helps us understand where people are coming from in other threads, what forms their opinions and such
i think its good to see so many people who are willing to share too as it makes you realise the internet int just for slagging everyone off and arguing and trolling as it sometimes seems, especially if you pay attention to the media.

remember, its not about being interesting, its about delivering some information about yourself that will probably be more interesting to other folk than yourself as you live that life. although i dont think anyone would want to force anyone to reveal any information at all.

im glad that no one has felt the need to pick people apart for their personal lives too, i was a little worried that some may see the option to take digs at people.
so thanks kvr for showing your true colours, the colours that actually made me love this place in the first place.

I'm 34 and I am currently living in Berlin / Germany (though I'm not German).
I am not actually interested in much anything else than music and sound design, and that's the big problem of my life (or dunno if it's a problem, other people say so!). Still I managed to have a few relationships but they have always crumbled apart because my passion to music. Oh, well, I like drinking red wine too and studying a bit about it. Currently I down 1 bottle per night, usually the nice french ones. Am I alcoholic too

I make music / sounds all day and think about it all the time. I'm obsessed. It's also my job and I'm quite succesful in it. I guess that makes me a workaholic too

To echo a few other posters... this string has been incredibly enlightening.

Not to mention, damn it feels good to have some peers; a larger population of gentleman in their 40's who also delve in the electronic arts such as I. Unless, of course, you're all teenage girls just posing as 40-something men just to be cruel.

But seriously folks, this also illustrates how much I just can't stand it, being one of the few (if only) KVRians and/or true plugin/DAW aficionadi in my greater area (Upstate New York, Syracuse area). Or at least one of the few in the advanced hobbyist/ expert non-professional arena, if you get my drift.

Here's my $.02 to contribute to the string:
I'm 44, one 17-year old kid. Graphic artist who has come to terms with just working the 9 to 5 grind, and making it a point to leave work, at work. I'm a Syracuse, NY native but lived in Las Vegas for 6? years back in the 90s. I have a teaching degree I never used (elementary ed). Relearning the single life again after a 10-year relationship. Sure does sound like a dating ad!

Sure wish there were some peers in my burg that were like-minded. Either there aren't any; or they are so wrapped up in their career/wife/family/selves to care; or are closet/bedroom musicians; or lost the craft; or are afraid to admit in this rock/country town that they wanna get together and start a Depeche Mode/NIN/Thomas Dolby cover band... and get beat up in the parking lot by a bunch of homophobes, who think the band is gay. LOL.

I have seen a few interesting want-ads in the local craigslist looking for musical partners, but 99% of them are age-discriminatory. i.e. A recent ad i read: "I'm 25 and looking for someone my age to work with, no geezers above 40." Dork.

My point being, Syracuse is not very accepting to change or different stuff, IMO.

I also wonder who buys all of those keyboards from my local Guitar Center store.

I'll stop there.

i'm going to be 40 soon and tend to keep my personal life to myself, so i may not fit in very well here.

i am professing of the things on the topic of organizational psychology at some university in a southern american state that is shaped like a gun.
