I was thinking about this on the way to work so haven't had a chance to try yet. Thought i'd confirm here first, so my mind can keep working away on what I want to achieve tonight
I would like to randomise MIDI velocity level, but only when a note is triggered. This is different to using an LFO assigned to velocity because if I have say a 1/4 note and velocity set to 1/16 this single 1/4 note will modulate at 1/16. And I can't just set the LFO speed to the MIDI event timing because each note is a different length.
I'm hoping and expecting there to be a M4L device out there for this.
Sitting here right now, I have a distinct impression i'm overlooking something very very basic
And the next question, I would also like to randomise the timing. Initially I thought of simply applying swing, but this would still be fixed. How can I randomise when a note is triggered? I only want to do this by a tiny and barely perceptible amount.
Gracias amigos

Hey there.
Here's what you might be overlooking:
Use a Velocity device to introduce random velocity.
Use Grooves to introduce some random timing variation.

Thanks mate.masstronaut wrote:Hey there.

Not sure how the velocity device will actually behave until I try it.
I suspect it will modulate the entire sample at whatever speed I set the LFO to. I need it to randomly select a velocity value and apply this to the entire note, and then do the same to the next entire note, so on and so forth.
Just did some research on the Groove engine and you can indeed set the randomness. Surely then, random will be applied to timing and velocity.masstronaut wrote:Use Grooves to introduce some random timing variation.
I think Grooves are my answer.
Thanks mate

Hey, would I lie to you?
Velocity device has a Random knob.
Random setting in Grooves only affects timing.

Just had a quick play with both of these whilst at workmasstronaut wrote:Hey, would I lie to you?

Works a treat
