Hey guys, I've been playing around on soft synths for a while manly just to lean and replicate tracks I'm interested in. Making few track myself but get the pleaser out of playing synth sounds and beats.
Hoping some of you guys might be able to help get a similar sound to the lead basslines in these particular tracks.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs1WLCIrMCQ
I have been playing around with similar sounds such as this one mini moog v and TAL juno plug in.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYpTbEi0j9k
But I cant get that nice wide saturated chorusy and filter cutoff/AMP like the other one. Mine been ''sharper'' and more ''crispy'' compared to there ''groan'' and ''lushes'' sounds. Is there any tricks to getting the sound like that. all the tracks bass sound so similar that I guessing they all applying very similar techniques. Maybe these to plug ins are limited? would a ploy 6 or poly ana plug in get a better result?? Can I go further with a the chorus technique? Im using the TAL juno and ableton chorus. just not sure what to do!!

post an example of how far you got
They are all pretty straight forward saw-based bass patches with the usual filtering and amp env, but i'm guessing you got that far already.
too crisp etc.; try using a tape simulator, that might take away some of the harshness, crispyness etc + it'll add saturation
other than that, i found that putting (high passed) reverb on the bass helps. I put it as an insert and put a compressor after that so the reverb becomes a part of the sound, rather than an added effect. Might get you a little closer

Hey mate.
So this is what I've got.
The first few bars are a korg poly 6 and the second the TAL u no LX (juno 106).
http://soundcloud.com/weredeux/saw-bass/s-Z8Skj
I think the sound is some where in between those two, but cant get it
The chain for the poly 6 is:
TAL chours (Juno type chorus)
HP EQ
smallest amount of reverb
The TAL U No LX chain is:
HP EQ
a return with the smallest amount of reverb and delay.
From what I have read all the synths that should be able to produce this sound I have failed, The poly 6 is the closest I've came. WTF!
I've tried:
MS20
Minimoog
TAL Juno
Sylenth1
DIVA
I spend some time on them all to, and get some nice sounds that are pretty close! I feel like Im missing something in all this
Think poly 6 gets pretty slow this time maybe its the way in witch it can be played, I used the Doctor dru - 2 know you for my loop but can you tell me what is doing to get that bendy sound in his notes. pitch bend? is it just playing a couple of notes at a time because it sounds different to that??

i got relatively close to the dr dru example using the polysix starting from the preset that pops up when you open it
I messed around with it a bit and added some tape saturation, drive, basic eq, small delay and reverb and a compressor in the end
I could send you the preset if you want
here's what I got;

first loop is dr dru, second one is mine

Yeah that would be great if you have time mate. Did you put the delay and reverb on a return with the compressor or on the direct channel

Im curious to know how similar these two tracks are to the first ones. They sounds pretty much the same. I've tried closing the the cutoff more and turning up the res but it doesn't sound like thats jsut it.
Do you think these some difference in the in AMP or filter Cutoffs. I cant really tell.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkImfUtmhD8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnlEWhOVaic
They sound a little more ''bass guitary'' to me. The pluck and body of sound.
Hope this ins't pushing it but I am trying all things before I ask and I would really like to know.
Cheers

I think one of the main differences in those two is unison / detuning of the oscilators to get that wider / looser sound.
anyway: preset + midi; http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/80294465/file.html
delay and reverb were added as inserts in this case
Just check out the other presets in those emulations too, there's lots of them that get you those kinds of basses with very little adjustments needed

The difference to me sounds like it would be like stated before, the unison and the level of the SubOsc. Tweak around with the waveforms too, do combinations of Square + Saw, mess with the EG Intensity, Cutoff and Resonance, and lastly spice it with some effects, mastering, very faint convultion reverbs, everything you can try.

My ear isn't the best for this kind of thing, but I think some of those basses are being played in fifths. Either that or the saturation/osc sync/filter resonance/whatever is strongly emphasising the third harmonic of the bass which sits an octave and a fifth above the fundamental.
Try tuning one oscillator an octave and a fifth higher than the other. That's +19 semitones (or + 1 octave and 7 semitones if your synth has separate controls for the two). Send both into the same filter with that low cutoff. Tried it this end and got nice results.

Hey ithinkm0,
The closest Ive come is still with Tijl patch and played around with it some more. Its pretty much the same when I play it over the doctor dru bass. But its a different game when your making your own beats. ( as expected )
Ive just got back from holidays so haven't had the time to try out what cron said about basses being played in fifths. I might give that a go today and will report back.
