I just started getting into music production about a year ago and I wanted to start out by recreating something similar to the plucky bass sound you hear at the beginning of Scream and Shout will.i.am and brittney spears. I think Basto produced it, not sure.

I can come pretty close, but I can't seem to get the same sharp clean and crisp quality as the pro's. How do I get to the professional quality levels.... it's killing me! I used sylenth and some waves plugins.

put some very short percussion sample over the synth so the attack sound is more accentuated.

of course a attack-dedicated synth layer would do it aswell.
