I have a nice little Zoom R8 audio interface/recorder/control surface/drum machine, it works great in Win 7 but on my new Win 8 laptop it wouldn't install the driver, saying it wasn't for this version of Windows. I Tried setting the properties on both the Setup and driver installers and then ran the install without issues, and now I have both the audio driver as well as the midi controls working perfectly. I would guess any other drivers that balk at getting installed in 8 may also work with this trick. Anyhow, it may be common knowledge already but for those that don't know, it was a lifesaver to me, as I don't really know how soon Zoom will get out a new driver.

Hey I also have the R8 and a laptop with Windows 8 on it. What did you change and where did you change it to allow for the R8 driver to install. Could you go through step by step? I am computer illiterate. I would really appreciate you helping me out, I've been messing around with this for too long and need to get making music. Thanks

Download the archive from http://www.zoom.co.jp/downloads/r8/manual/

For both the Setup application and R8 Driver Windows Installer do the following:

1. right-click and select Properties from the menu.
2. At window dialog, click Compatability tab
3. Click the 'Run this program in comparability mode for' box and also select Windows 7. Click ok and dismiss the dialog.
4. Go back to Setup app and right-clic, select 'run as Administrator'.

I do believe Windows 8 should allow the install now.

You need to have had Windows 7 on the computer previously don't you? Because when I go to compatibility mode my only option in the drop down menu is previous version of windows. no option for windows seven.

I don't think so, but in that case just choose XP or (probably better) Vista. I don't have my laptop with me so I can't confirm on my own win 8 machine.

I can't pick them either, there are no options besides "previous version of Windows".

Try that then.

I have a number of times now. A window pops up and says "R8 driver requires an X86 processor". I have an HP M6 Envy I think. Like I said I am computer illiterate but I am pretty sure I have an X86 processor or something better? I'm not sure.

Ok maybe that is it then, the driver likely wouldn't work even if you were running Win7. I wouldn't buy any Win comp that didn't run on Intel, not because they are necessarily better just better supported by more hardware and software. My best guess now is that you are simply out of luck. Contact Zoom and see if they can help you somehow. That won't be easy I'm guessing as they don't seem to have much of a support presence outside of Japan.

That means you have the 32 bit driver and you have a 64 bit system. See if Zoom has a 64 bit driver...
