I still regularly take samples off my old tapes via my Tascam cc222 and record them to digital . Got some cracking old rare stuff , apprx 3000 tapes
You start at A finish at B and everything else in-between is what you make it .......... that's life and music

The value of your cassettes really depends on what's on it. If it's popular, easy to find now on CD stuff, then, it's not worth much. But if you've got some rare new age albums, they might be worth something. At the beginnning of this year I've sold a lot of new age tapes for 10$ to 25$ each. Punk, experimental, ambient and spoken word cassettes are the ones you are looking for. Numbered limited edition can also be worth a lot.
Here's an example of a tape I've sold 50$ a couple of months ago:

Here's another example of a cassette I've sold 125$ a couple of minutes after I've put it on sales on Discogs:
http://www.discogs.com/Steven-Jesse-Ber ... se/1713338
If you have those, go to Discogs and put them on sales! Or wait a bit and get even more money for them...

Yep there are a lot of hardcore collectors out there. I focus on vinyl and the odd cd, have loads of cassettes from the 80's which I'll hold onto but not holding breath until there's a cassette revival, currently in the Vinyl phase.
Nice sell btw.

I still don't know what to do with my Denon cassette tape deck...keep it as a museum piece for my son?...bin it? sell it for £1?...pretend I'm a dinosaur everytime somebody comes to see me?.... it is a lovely machine...
Mine is still alive, very much like a zombie.By the mid-1990s the cassette was a dead medium

Couldnt agree more.SampleScience wrote:The value of your cassettes really depends on what's on it.
Ive got a Kenwood KX-77CW that i wont get rid of, even though people are selling them as vintage online for like $15. Dolby NR B and C? Woo! Sometimes i convert microtapes i stumble on around here into standard cassettes so i can transfer them to digital, and discover the strange crap i recorded years past.himalaya wrote:I still don't know what to do with my Denon cassette tape deck...
Plus, you just cant fake the effects you can make by recording things onto a casssette, taking a lighter to it, and re-recording it back into digital. Or that lovely bleed you get, from whats on the other side, or pulling some tape out, crunching it up, reeling it back in...
Ive got a tape hardon just thinking about it.
So what tapes do you have? Any for sale now?

Similar thing here. Although don't give up hope. I did manage to sell my $1-2k cassette collection to a 2nd hand music store for $2. I really only sold them because it was easier to carry $2 home than a pile of cassettesMWSOS wrote:I put all mine in a binbag years ago - even the charity shops didn't want them

Mine still works - maybe I'll take it out on the bus to look retro-cool I remember not going anywhere without a stack of tapes in my backpack.Igro wrote:Is anybody still walking outside with the cassette player (like walkman and so on).
