Best Tube emulation vst? opinion about its use?

Hi guys! May I ask you once again an opinion?
can "Ferric TDS" by Variety of Sounds be added to the final stage of a mastering to add some non linear event - tube alike flavour to a digital track, to make it more alive and breathing and less digital-static?
If not, which other plug ins can be used in an audible effective way for such purpose?
When a real tube outboard is missed in a home studio can a tube emulation plugin give some more life to a digital track? Thanks and greetings!

Yes Ferric TDS can be used in that manner if you so wish and like what it does. There are plenty of options, If you are on PC then AXP does a really good one for free which I really like http://www.soft-amp.com/?q=softamp-3od
Give it a try, Works great with/alongside Herbert's Variety Of Sound processors and effects and AXP also offers other plug-ins also
On the second part, I really am not sure how to answer other than offer my above opinion (and I'll say there are other processing plugins which can offer similar things). I can't answer because valve processing is not something I'd personally say would be missing from any setup - It simply depends if you would like that sort of thing. Another great one is Two-Notes TORPEDO Wall of Sound III plug-in if you bypass the mic'd loudspeaker cabinet section to take advantage of the non-linear power amplifier stage, You can find it here: http://www.two-notes.com/en/software/to ... f-sound-3/
along with further information via two-notes forum along with these threads here on KVR - http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... c&start=60 and more in detail/dedicated here http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0
Now I know a lot of that is guitar amp related in one thread but please look past that and think of the parts of info without speaker cabinets and high-gain stuff
I hope that is some help to you Diego_C, I'd like to comment on Nebula but I've not yet looked at it/tested it as there are so many options. I wish you get lots of answers/suggestions as of course all perspectives are important and what works for me may not work for you at all
All the best and to all as always

All sounds fine Dean!
I do have all the VoS vst and I downloaded the AXP too.
Thanks a lot to you as well for spending time to give your opinion.
Let's say I am "working" in advance, collecting info and some free vst, for when I will have time in the next days to listen to the difference among adding or not a valve vst emulation to a track, to get if it can give some more warm or audible interesting differences and results, obviously from my personal - subjective point of view and listening experience.
You know, peeps kinda like saying, on and on, "analog was better, analog was warmer, tube is better than digital", which I am not here to discuss about, neither to say that I agree or not, just wanna find out a bit more.
I owned "analog" stuff in the past, as valve guitar preamps and combos, an old synth I have no more, some consumers generic tube preamps, as from the ART DSP brand and a cheap Behringer, but now I don't have them anymore.
I know sounds weird that I will try to get it through vst tube emulation, anyway it's kinda game/test, let's say.
Maybe I will find out that really adding that analog tube sound a track sometimes, depending on the original and on the music genre, may sounds nicer.
I will see.
Thanks again

I don't know anything about Ferric TDS but my favourites are:-
Soundtoys Radiator https://www.soundtoys.com/product/Radiator
Wavarts Tube saturator http://wavearts.com/products/plugins/tube/
Soundtoys requires ilok but Tube saturator just as good but different does not need one. Both are circuit modelled so they use a crazy amount of CPU for a first gen i7 but very usable and worth it.

Oh I understand what you are after and wanting to do (With your own personal shootout as it were). I apologize if I came across as not getting what you mean't as I do. I'm certain you'll find plenty to like and utilize with all the options available. You might find that most work wonders on individual sound sources and groups to give character and/or pull out or even obscure certain details depending on the goal/goals but can be a bit too much on the master stereo out which I usually do (Unless there is a means to mix in subtle amounts via a wet/dry or mix control for example)Diego_C wrote:All sounds fine Dean!

u-he's Satin has to go onto the list as it will be quality. Not emulating valves or tubes but rather tape AFAIK, Still both approaches give similar results IME used with subtlety and marvellous chaotic creativeness when pushed or abused as some would rather say - Like Radiator, There is not much in the way of subtle with that one but it is great/as good as it gets kaboom75 for the mention of it
Have a great time trying all out

Has anyone tried the free TubePreamp vst? It's the closest I have heard to a real tube from digital.

Even too many options now.
By now I'll keep my hands on freeware stuff.
I'll try Ferric TDS, AXP, Tube Preamp and Torpedo III in its preamp stage.
Surely there are more ways but I'll try these tube emulations.
Thank you all really!

The best tube emulation I've ever heard in VST land is surprisingly never talked about here. It's Studio Devil's Virtual Tube Preamp.

Check this out guys. It's so perfectly modelled, you would swear you've just put your channel through a piece of analog kit.

+1 for this the Studiodevil Preamp, the Wavearts and the Radiator. Love them all, and each one has its special sound. The Wavearts seems to be the most surgical to my ears (and a fat cpu hog). Radiator is great if you're searching for hot driven drums, bass for example (very great frequency response curves here). The Studio Devil one is really rich too, and they're working on an update with a second circuit to boost the drive even more. I'm starting to try the beta and it's pretty damn hot !soundpalace wrote:The best tube emulation I've ever heard in VST land is surprisingly never talked about here. I don't think you can find anything better than Nebula for this type of task

http://cdsoundmaster.com/site/cds-softw ... erneb.html
Nebula is especially good for those effects that do not need any tweaking.
