De-essers?

I don't record vocals. I make edm ITB. Do I need a de-esser?
In fact, I don't think I've ever used one. If something sounds harsh up there, then I just eq it out. Am I missing something?

Without vocals you don't need a de-esser. But if you have enough time, it cannot harm to experiment with them on other material than vocals. Maybe you'd be the one to find out that they work also great for guitars or synths or whatever...

You don't need one if you're not working with vocals, but sometimes they're useful to tame harsh sounding hihats or other material with a lot of high end frequencies.
