Is it legal to use samples from public domain audiobooks in music?

Just wondering if it is totally legal and ok to use samples cut from public domain audiobooks from sites like Librivox and Archive.org? Would permission be needed from anyone, be it the readers or whatever?

All our audio is in the public domain, so you may use it for whatever purpose you wish.
