Static that lessens when I touch my M-Audio Fast Track's dials or move the interface

Hi, I hear a loud clicking type of static sound that lessens and sometimes even goes away when I touch my M-Audio Fast Track's dials or move the interface around. The interface and dials are plastic. I don' think the interface is bad because it also does it on my Presonus Audiobox interface.
I have unplugged my clock, my cordless phone and even my computer speakers, to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

Sounds like the classic ground loop hum issue, any monitor will (eventually) cause problems here or there, unless made specifically for a computer.
Either get balanced cables or what I use is a Behringer MicroHD hum destroyer, costs $20, has 2 1/4" inputs and outputs. You don't need to test everything, as it's going to be a problem at one point or another.

RunBeerRun, below is my setup. Should I put the hum destroyer between the M-Audio out and the splitter?
xlr mic cable in to M-Audio Fast Track USB
M-Audio Out to splitter (head phones and computer speaker)
Thanks,
Mike

Update: I have discovered that the culprit is my cable modem. I am actually switching to a new provider tomorrow, so I will see if that modem causes the same issue. I will plug it into the same outlet as my other computer stuff.

Hi,
I switched to the new provider and I still get the clicking sound when my modem is powered up. When I disconnect the modem's power cord, I no longer get the clicking sound. AT&T ran a line test and said everything is A-OK. I asked if they could send me some type of noise filter, but they said they don't have anything like that.
Do you folks have a suggestion?
Thanks,
Michael

Maybe you are in the rare position where a mains power filter / conditioner is the solution.mkb1967 wrote:When I disconnect the modem's power cord, I no longer get the clicking sound.
This one is not that expensive and actually does something:

Plug in either all your studio gear into that and NOT the modem, or use it JUST on the modem to isolate it from the rest of your world.
