They used multiple vocalists - you can pick out other male vocals (presumably the other band members') and a female vocal on some of their songs.
I once had a similar question about The Mowglis' "San Francisco," wondering how they'd gotten the recording to sound like there were so many voices. Turns out they just have a lot of people in the band.

Plus overdubbing / double tracking. I almost want to say that it's rare for a commercial recording to only have one vocal track, period. At least a harmonizer or doubler mimicking multiple singers / takes.
