Final version (EXTREME REMIX)
https://soundcloud.com/synchanter/the-q ... reme-remix
EDIT: Final Remix, not going to put any more time into this song. This was mainly an exercise in learning to use Reaper DAW, and learn mixing. Thank you so much everyone for your kind comments and advice!

Help! My monitors exploded because of all this booming low end!
Seriously, some nice ideas but a few less booming and a bit less distortion would make the tune more enjoyable for my ears!

Delouded. Hope it works better. Great advice.
I had wanted it to be a heavier song, but probably added too much punch.
Going for a more soundscapey effect now with pan tricks.
Wonder how many people recognize the main synth.

Much better now, at least my speakers did survive the listening experience!
The bass line needs a bit getting used to but I assume it's intended that it sounds like a lazy, buzzing dog?
The autopanning is a bit too much, though.

Remixed once more!
Used EQ to notch the crap out of the bass so it stayed out of the kick drum's way, and to notch the lead so it let the snare through.
I have now remixed it once more so the instruments have their own frequency domains rather than clashing.
Learned a lot from this exercise!
Hmm, the bass. I was experimenting with different sounds to innovate the vibe, but maybe that fuzz wasn't the best idea.. Haha and yeah I need to figure the panning stuff out.
Thanks, after listening to it again it was very muddy!VariKusBrainZ wrote:Still too much mud, distorted my headfonez

Glad to hear improvement, thanks for the feedback.Tricky-Loops wrote:Much better now, at least my speakers did survive the listening experience!

Much better now! No more distorted headphones.
What's that? A robo-fox? Really cool!
And please don't take my next comment personally, but your playing is a little out.
Did you recorded midi with your computer keyboard?
And I have no idea what the main synth is.

Thanks! The animal sound is supposed to be the dog that the fox sampled.XorXisT wrote:Much better now! No more distorted headphones.

Yeah I know the playing sucks! I wasn't focusing on that yet, I will get to learning more about how to time with my DAW soon. For time being, this was just to learn to blend sounds together and mix properly.
Still much to learn..

Thanks for the details.
I'm just like you, diving into production.
The difference from the 1st version of your song to this last version is big, I mean BIG!
You learn fast!

I must admit, in this case the (many) off-set notes of the bass line even have some charm because they really sound like a sleepy, lazy, grumbling dog...Synchanter wrote:Yeah I know the playing sucks! Haha, the funny thing was I re-recorded the bass to be time-perfect, but it sounded quite boring, so I kept the drunken bassline..Tricky-Loops wrote:I must admit, in this case the (many) off-set notes of the bass line even have some charm because they really sound like a sleepy, lazy, grumbling dog...Synchanter wrote:Yeah I know the playing sucks! Thanks I've been trying to improve by watching Groove 3 and Youtube.XorXisT wrote:Thanks for the details.

All I really know about mixing is to make sure instruments don't occupy too much the same frequencies.
For example, I let the kick drum have the super low frequencies, the bass the low frequency, the lead the mids and mid-high and the snare the high frequencies. Seems like that theory works..
All the best with your music adventures!

OK, final remix! Not going to put any more time into this song, but thought I should share this remix just to finish up this song in its best form.

Best mix hands down!
All sounds have their own space in the mix. Good job!
