Hi all,

What I'm searching here is a (miracle ?) solution to how to turn a wacom tablet (intuos 3) into a midi controller in windows 7 (x64). And I'm new to this.
The purpose is not to play keyboard with, but mainly to control VST's effects (mod, pan, pitch, etc) or trigger samples in a daw (cubase 5, for me).

-----
The thing is..... at first I wanted to use Max/MSP to interpret the data and send it to cubase as midi info, but I faced two problems : 1) I am a friggin' newbie in MAX - 2) All the wacom objects (from CNMAT & cie) do not work for MAX 5 in win7.

That leaves the current option : use a software that transform directly wacom data into midi and route it to cubase. I've searched and found different answers (like this one here : http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5885442) but most of it where outdated.

- "Wmidi" and "Theremin" (from http://www.nicolasfournel.com/wmidi.htm) show me a DLL error.
- "Tablet 2 midi" link is apparently dead since 2010 (http://www.livelab.dk/tablet2midi.php)
- "Midistylus" ...can't get data out of it (https://midistylus.codeplex.com/)

The only one that seems to be functionning is MIDITab, which has a pretty clear interface (http://www.tinygod.com/productold.html). But I still haven't managed to link the Midi controls to cubase.
-----

Anyway, I would be very grateful if anyone around here who tried the same thing (successfully or not) could help me to get the beginning of an answer. It would be a shame to only use this tablet for graphical purpose :) !

[summary : wacom intuos 3 ; windows 7 x64 ; any VST]

Thanks folks for reading it all !

PS : this is my first post here

That would be ... if you got the file on your hard drive, that is.
Download link is broken... :/

ooops didn't checked..
One thing you could do when you find a missing link or page is to use the internet archive via wayback...
like this http://web.archive.org/web/201305141909 ... nloads.php
now the link works :)

The Tablet2MIDI link is broken? That's a shame, as I really liked that one, and also LiveSlice. Too bad the developer seems to have disappeared.

I've found the Wacom tablet to be capable of some really expressive performances. I've used it with my own Reaktor ensembles, and especially when you add pressure and tilt to the parameter mappings, it really becomes a musical tool.

Huh, odd I never even considered my Wacom for such things... but yeah, with tilt, x/y and pressure data all streaming in at one time, I imagine it would be pretty cool, but that would mean losing my right hand to it and I use that a lot when doing music. 8)

You could still use it for theremin style sounds. Pitch on x axis, filter cutoff on y axis, pressure for volume. Then throw in some other parameter mappings for complexity and interest.

I use a Wacom bamboo tablet with Cubase 7.5 and it works fine.it does take a little getting used to but it basically takes over your mouse so you can quickly move faders, draw eq curves..etc and for that its much much better and quicker than using a mouse.
i still use my moouse though for dragging and copying parts but nearly everything else can be done with Wacom.

also no need to set it up in Cubase ,Cubase sees it as a mouse so no fiddling about with menus.

...

another thing its good for is editing audio you can do it more acuratlly with the pen than you can with mouse and i use it for some arp programming its very fast to draw in arpegatted curves and to draw automation parameters..i could go for ages :)

Haven't heard of it 'till now... Allright, you're officially my savior ! For the file and the technic for retrieving missing links. :D
I'll try tablet 2 midi.

Mmh i didn't quite get it...do you use anything to send midi data from the tablet to cubase ? You said cubase detected it as a mouse, so how do you change that ?

Anyway, thanks for the replies !

ive not tried it too send midi im not sure if that would work.

once you install the Wacom drivers and software your computer then recognizes it as a input device so you can use it not just for drawing but use it as a normal mouse so you can quickly move around and use it as youd use your mouse.
so in your daw (I use Cubase) all the things youd use your mouse for things like drawing in eq curves/drawing in automation/moving faders/turn parameter knobs /drawing in data for a arppegigater ..etc all these functions can be done with the pen/tablet instead of using your old mouse.if you use the pen/tablet you can draw in better curves and edit better you can even use it with iris2 to draw in complex way out graphic parameters that would be too hard to do with a mouse but with a pen its a piece of cake.
lots of people have tablets nd there pretty cheap now but hardly anybody uses it or realises you can use it with a daw..give it a try I can be a bit hard to start with because everyone uses a mouse but you soon get used to it and then youll not go back.

Upgrade to one of the newer Intuos models and they come with multi touch as standard now - you don't even need to use the pen except if you want to draw or write something. Better than a touch screen really as they are more precise, you can have them at a more ergonomic angle, you can program in all sorts of shortcuts for the buttons and touch-ring, as well as gestures, and you don't get smudges on the screen.

not to necro the thread, but if you have not got this covered here is a win7/max5 32 bit/bidule solution that I use to get from wacom to osc via maxpatch and osc into bidule where it is put to use controlling things via midi. should work on other dawish things but have not tried. here tis: https://github.com/rcrath/osc-wacom-max ... ree/master
