I finally got to get my hands dirty with Hive. I really like the fast workflow. I'm not sure when I would grab an instance of Hive over Zebra2 though. Hive doesn't yet do anything you can't do with Zebra. But then again, that's not really the goal of Hive is it? I did notice it used about 2/3 the CPU of my similar Zebra patches and it was really fast to program (though Zebra doesn't take long either). Anyhow, great job! I hope to see Hive go all abuzz on Twitter. ;)

I would like to see a 'category' listing of presets. Strings, brass, blown, picked, mellow, etc..

Actually I'd love to see this on all u-he products.. (I know some have them)... I know it may to late for earlier products.. But when you're working on a project. It's a pain, to go sorting thru presets. I usually turn to another virtual instrument ..

I know this is hard cause U-he is building a set of synths which are not really strictly traditional.. Still speed and efficiency is an inportant factor when working on a project, especially on the clock..

At the least even a searchable document with category tags, to search would be helpful.

I'm gonna purchase the Hive.. Already own a few of your products.. You are doing a great job, making unique instruments at a reasonable price.. the Beta idea is excellent, along with your occasional sales, questionnaire coupon.. Your instruments are ones I can afford to buy, and they give sounds like no other.

At this point for me, (and probably a lot of others is price point).. I think many companies would make a huge profit if they lowered their prices, and did more volume.. The more volume leads people to discuss and engage others to get interested.. I always praise U-he on the websites I go too.. When more people get the new Macs - it will be great to hear what you can do when you have more CPU processing available to you..
My 2008, balks a little bit.. But once I've got a working track, I realize to audio, and maybe refine it later..

The sonic pallette of your instruments is great..

I liked some of the melodies better than others, but I thought many of the melodies are very good! I certainly wouldn't mind trying those patches myself!

Even though I'm not in love with the hexagonal virtual knobs, overall I think the gui looks sharp (and the hexagonal knobs fit the honey comb motif).

Thank you again to those posting Hive patches!

I had some fun with Hive and redid the sounds from a trance track from earlier this year that I wrote using mostly Zebra2. I got some really nice sounds really freakin' fast. The first half is Zebra2 (plus a Kontakt piano) and the second half is Hive. Enjoy!

(All internal effects to Hive and no tweaks or EQ'ing, just raw Hive. Would sound even better with some cleanup.)

Honeycomb...
I personally don't feel that comb filter is a must-have thing for a synth of this sort. FM (just between two oscillators enough) - yes, Sync - yes, Ring - may be, but not comb. It is a step to physical modelling. After all, you can use Zebrify for it.

Can presets made in beta be used in the final release version? IF so, I'm off to make some new bank. :hyper:

Thank very much for these, and to all who have posted patches, it's really appreciated and made the beta experience so much better. :tu:

Urs, i have one question. Will you add extra waveform on Hive?

Hello Everyone,
I spent ten minutes with it saturday morning and then after that 10 minutes
I bought the preview version and made a bunch of presets for this wonderful synth,
it's a great capable synth that can do analog stuff as well as EDM,
it may be comparable to sylenth1 but to me, it's a synth un-like any other out there,
I wish the mp3 previews of hive get released as presets in the next revision,
virusHive preset would be nice, there are only a few presets showing off the synths
abilities but you can make your own presets easily, so I uploaded all my presets to
Audiobombs since there is no KVR entry yet for Hive, I didn't know where to upload
but Audiobombs:
https://www.audiobombs.com/items/742/u-he-hive-presets
There are sound demos of the presets over there but the ones that say WOA
means without ARP, meaning it's the same preset as labelled but the ARP was
turned off, I didn't save the ARPless versions;
Enjoy the holidays and the sounds.

Xenos wrote:Hey Urs,

I have a few feature requests that would definitely set Hive apart, since so many people have been comparing it to Sylenth.

- Comb Filter as a filter option.
- FM option between Osc 1 and Osc 2
- Non tempo-sync option for the delay (I like to use very short stereo delays as a stereo widener). Also, if there was a "rate" knob in this hypothetical "non-synced" delay mode, it would be really cool to modulate that in the mod matrix for special effects.
- Some additional, more exotic oscillator waveforms. If you did that, I could contribute a few for you and save you some time.

If you are going to advertise Hive as also being good for dubstep or drum & bass, the osc FM, exotic waveforms and comb filter features would all help quite a lot in that area.

BTW, guys, here is my batch of 32 hive patches. Enjoy :).

.
+100500 on all the suggestions (and thanks for the patches)

Also +100500 on the formant filter.

Maybe if it doesn't fit the Hive concept (only basic features, lowest possible CPU) , Urs could consider releasing an expanded, higher priced version, Hive Plus or Hive XT, whatever.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Tricky-Loops wrote:Everybody seem to make presets for Hive now... :o

But does it make sense when so many features will still be changed during the beta phase? Will the presets be upward compatible?
I don't see why they wouldn't be compatible. If we add anything it'll be at the bottom of drop down lists.

We won't change anything fundamental, like deleting a filter or replacing the reverb.

When the delay is turned on, you can select "Time Scale" in the Mod Matrix.

Non-syncing values should be possible… we'll think about it.

Thanks for sharing patches! Did you get my email last week?
