Well, $400 for a working D-50 is probably worth it. No one has come out with a great set of samples from the D-50, and there's no VST equivalent. I understand UVI just released a new set of "digital synths from the '80s" samples, and while the library has a few D-50 synths, it may not have every one you need.

I was hoping Roland's involvement with Cakewalk would have led to a D-50 (or L/A-based synthesis) VST, but that's over, and we have nothing really to show for it, other than the Integra (a very nice synth in its own right).

Bottom line: If you want a lot of D-50 sounds, your best bet is to get a D-50 or D-550. You never know what the quality of third-party samples will be.

That entire Enya album is my absolute favorite use of the D-50 ever!
