My nephew has the same motherboard. He ordered
a intel xeon 5670 cpu. I told him people are running
48gb ram. He googled and found the thread, on this forum.
I remember seeing the post, but can't find it.
Is anyone here using this configuration? I don't think
an ssd drive is possible with this MOBO, due to the sata controller
chipset.
Thank,Bill

If you put in 48GB RAM be aware you will need Windows pro or higher to make all of that ram available.
You could put in a PCI-e SSD into a PCI-e slot. They are twice as fast as SSD but cost far more.

Have you tried running DPC latency checker? It could be something else like wifi or wired network :bill45 wrote:Thanks kaboom 75. I have 64bit home premium. I thought it
supports 64 gb. I'm doing this to run more guitar vsti'sVmetal sounds great but, it's spiking my cpu!

Thanks, Chapelle, I have 24gb now.Just checked, I do have Win 7 pro.I upgraded from home premium.
Thank kaboom 75. I'll run this. only a couple of libraries and giving problems
I run 20 instances of east west play QLSO for orchestral stuff. Cpu 30-50%
The disk meter in cubase never moves.

Hey, We got the intel xeon 5670 cpu installed yesterday! Have not bought the memory yet.So far so good. some software needs to be re- authorized, but, not the ilok stuff!!!!
He put in a corsair link H100i cpu cooler. We saw some cheap pny SSD's at best buy.
Almost half the price of the samsung and the crucial. Not sure how good they would be for steaming samples.

Be careful what RAM you get. ASUS boards don't like cheap ram.
48GB of ram is OTT for audio. However, for video it's just entry level.
I have a similar board, take your RAM choice seriously.
Disable power saving features and sleep states to avoid problems later.

Bill45, what did the CPU upgrade do to the performance of V-METAL? Since it's in essence a sample library, I'd expect harddisk and/or memory to be the bottleneck, not CPU
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Thanks camsr. A guy on the sounds online forum has the same motherboard.
He bought a 64 GB Gskilll memory kit.He has two modules leftover, but, Things are running very smooth.
I am taking this very serious because this memory is now $500 .
Breaker,The vmetal demo project "awakening", is running smoother, but still spiking.
How ever all my ni stuff is now in demo mode! I wonder if I can re authorize for both the mac and pc boot?
Windows will only boot in enhanced IDE mode.Mac boots in AHC.

Once that setting has been set, it cannot be changed after the OS is installed. You can change it if you reinstall the OS.bill45 wrote: Windows will only boot in enhanced IDE mode.Mac boots in AHC.

Thanks, that's what my nephew said. Wonder why my builder set it up that way?
I first had windows home premium. Maybe two drives didn't communicate well in AHC
with home premium? Will the drives perform better with AHC vs enhanced IDE? If so, how much?
BertKoor. I re authorized Kontakt and vmetal , ran, the project twice, no huge cpu
spikes, there was only one drop out.
