what is a reliable .sf2 to .sfz converter?

Surprisingly SF2 has lots of features SFZ 1.0 lacks, so you cannot do miracles unless you target one for SFZ 2.0, and even then to fully do SF2 (not many .sf2 files did), you need to have some ARIA extensions.

The converter in sforzando could be much improved, but to my knowledge it is the most complete.

oh, it thought sforzando was just a soundfont player. It has the ability to write .sfz files also?

sforzando only plays SFZ files natively.

It ships with an SF2->SFZ converter and has to convert before importing.

All imports are made in your "Converted files path". Just check the "SETTINGS" tab in sforzando to know where the files are.

Again you demonstrate how little you know about SFZ. Who knows, perhaps even about samplers and sampler formats in general.

From the official 1.0 spec: "The goal behind the sfz format is to provide a free, simple, minimalistic and expandable format to arrange, distribute and use audio samples with the highest possible quality and the highest possible performance flexibility."

In contrast, the SF2 format is a monolithic, proprietary and deprecated format that contained seldom used modulation maths bits that have not been backported to SFZ 1.0 and not entirely into SFZ 2.0. (They are used in a few files made with the old Creative Labs "Vienna" editor, and not supported by anything else) - ARIA's 'mod' math modulator takes care of the rest (and is much more flexible). We plan to publish all that on sfzformat.com soon. The important thing to know is that for roughly 95% of "real world SF2" examples, SFZ 1.0 is fine.

David, I'm sorry if I bothered you, it wasn't my goal. Now, I'll leave it here. I'm not interested in engaging in a debate about a file format. Good luck with your website...
