This chap has made an interesting Kontakt Engine for free and you can use it to make your own instruments.

I'm messing about with it. Anyone wanna try this little Violin thing based off the Sonatina Violins? The solo violin is one one, the first violin section is on two and the second section on three.

Its pretty amazing. Its designed to allow three sounds / soundsets to be layered and mixed. One or two work just fine too as it seems to just ignore empty groups. You can just copy and paste sounds you already have in Kontakt or drop in waves into the three groups. So easy enough if you have any experience with Kontakt. Everything seems to work, at least to the best of my limited knowledge. Just turning the effects and such on and off, so its seems like you don't have to mess with anything aside from adding some samples.
You can easily change the volume, panning and tune of each layer. On the first page you also have amp and pitch envelope controls and can choose a low, high or band pass filter and control its envelope. In messing with the violins, I set the solo violin a bit louder and center panned, the first violins a bit softer and left panned a bit and the second violins a touch softer yet and panned right. This seemed to give a pleasing effect.
The effects page has Lo-Fi, Skreamer, Distortion, Saturation, Chorus, Delay and Reverb with between 2 and 5 controls. Any interesting feature is that they are hot keyed. So if you want a quick effect in a live performance or on a midi just hold down the hotkey for as long as you want the effect. Release it and the effect is gone.
The rhythm engine has both a step and a filter sequencer with a ton of controls. I'm used to step sequencers but a filter sequencer kind of took my by surprise.
The output engine has stereo widening, a 4 band variable EQ and compressor. All the controls on all the panels have a little window that give you a number as you adjust a knob so 3.2 db or 43.2%, etc...
Overall I'm amazed that it is being given away (though you can donate I believe). It is somewhat specialized as you can't go over three layers and its not really designed to be used for separate articulations, though I suppose you could. I suspect its more intended for pads, though I think the violin thing works nicely.

Edit: the OP needs to change the title to A VERY Nice Kontakt Engine and add some exclamation marks.

Yes.... Been listening to the video walkthrough, and he's done some amazing work with that library. I just purchased a few things, where I'll be trying to catch up on all the included content, but I'm definitely coming back to buy this. Very nice work!ftech wrote:That Sphere K5 instrument looks tasty as well.
I desperately want to redo his videos to help better showcase both the free scripted engine (which is a lovely gesture) and his library for it, Sphere.
@bftucker, thanks for bumping this because I obviously missed it the first time around. Very nice work and a great find.
