Based on the fact that the album was released in 1992 and the tracks seem to be done during the 80s

I think the tracks have been remixed with new equipment.

I moved it over to my laptop... That is nowhere near a wavetable. Thats almost surely a synclavier in my estimation.

Wavetable like M1? I own a Korg T3 which is an expanded M series. To my ears I have no problem believing it could be generated from my T3.

Only know of the synclavier from Zappa recordings of it and I can`t imagine it producing such a sound.
How are you coming to this belief? Someone you know of who uses it and gets such sounds?

No I have never played or own a synclavier but I own albums that use it and it's almost always used in that way. I spotted it from my listening of this album specifically ...

Watching a Youtube demo on the synclavier. So far heard a horns patch I recognize from Zappa.
Here are groups sited as recording with it;
The Cure, New Order, George Duke, Pat Metheny, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Foreigner, Michael Jackson, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Genesis, Kim Wilde, The Cars, Soft Cell, Geoff Downes, Frank Zappa, and film composer Alan Silvestri.
Can you get me closer to where you have heard it and recognized it sounding ethereal?

Hey i forgot about this other track here from the "And the stars go with you" album. Im pretty sure that same preset is being used here at 00:10 and throughout the track. Sounds like the other preset in the other video i posted earlier without using any attack, delay, and filter. I am in love with whatever preset and keyboard this is..., such a beautiful sound! If someone can take a look and compare i would greatly appreciate it! Thanks for all the replies guys!

Synthesizer [Korg Ms10, Korg Ms20, Korg Ms50, Roland System 100, Home Built Analog Synthesizers], Tape, Loops
- Nowhere do I see synclavier. Never mind then.

So if and when someone takes the time to figure this out for you, what do you intend to do then...buy the plugin emulation, if you don`t already own it?
...and out of the above guesses, do you own any of those VSTi now?

...and BTW, the keys that come in @ 0.10 above certainly have a percussive attack. It`s soft but you say "no attack".
Come on now...between you and Dasheesh`s imaginary synclavier it will never get narrowed down.

Those keys are an e-piano, sounds FM to me. It`s not the same as from the other track. Each seem to use a type of e-piano but they are not the same.

I hope you all know that the Synclavier was not just a sampler but was able to do 12 operator FM/additive synthesis. Due to that it seemed to be capable of a huge amount of different sounds.

Some musicians like e.g. Tony Banks from Genesis seemed to have used it more as a synth than as a sampler.

Of course a DX7 was capable of many of those sounds but the way how the Synclavier worked seemed to be quite unique. I never used a Synclavier myself but i have the Enhus Sample library which is based on the FM in the Synclavier:

I worked with a Synclavier in the late 80's, but it was only used as a sampler, sequencer, and disk recorder. I suppose some people used it for synthesis, but mostly I think of the libraries for it where people sampled stacks of layered synths. That and the orchestra libraries, which didn't sound very good to my ears even at the time, but some people did very well by them. What really interested me was the resynthesis capabilities, but I never got much of a chance to play around with that.

Anyway, what I'm hearing in the example could definitely be FM. It's all buried in Lexicon effects or something, so its really hard to say exactly. Honestly, I don't see anything particularly special or unique about this sound that you couldn't reproduce with any number of different synths and a pile of delay and reverb.

Sounds like SCI Prophet V to me. The real trick/challenge is also in the delay mix and settings actually.

It sounds like a collage because it is. Sounds to me like some VA's, possibly roland, with the possibility of an analog filter being modulated by an lfo on top....maybe moog. what ever the modulated filter is is a wet resonance.

What synth is this pad from?
