“The Emulator II's Universe of Sounds [is] one of the most iconic sampler soundbanks in history”
– Computer Music magazine

Yes, at last, and at an average of only six months per volume (...!) we're proud and exhausted to bring you guys Volume 2 of the astonishing Emulator II OMI Universe of Sounds collection. If you don't need to hear any more, then this is where to go  http://www.rhythmicrobot.com/product/em ... unds-vol-2

Comprising well over 500 patches lovingly sampled out of a reconditioned EII, this Kontakt library accurately preserves the characteristics of the Emulator's wonderful companding convertors and analogue filters. We've sampled every note of every patch, sometimes repeatedly, to make sure that playing this library is as close to playing a real EII as possible.

Let's throw some figures around just for kicks:
  • 37,238 individual samples
    25Gb original 24-bit
    16Gb uncompressed 16-bit
    8.83Gb compressed .ncw format
    534 individual instruments, consisting of…
    …21 Bass / 4 Bells & Chimes / 39 Brass / 48 Drums / 46 Ethnic & Folk / 3 FX / 22 Guitar / 47 Piano & Keys / 45 Orchestral / 73 Percussion / 25 Strings / 139 Synth / 22 Vocal
“Few people know more about capturing the sound of a classic sampler than The Professor. Sampled soundbanks don’t get much more classic than this...”
– Computer Music magazine

Compared to our Volume 1 collection, the emphasis this time is more on synths and keyboards (with some really great, standout pianos, for example) plus individual string and brass patches captured in more depth. The synth sounds are superb, with both analogue and mid-80s digital sounds present; these layer up very pleasingly with the acoustic sounds if you want to go to town on some Multis (and we've got you started, with a selection of our own favourites already included). Ethnic patches are also great, and of course the EII works its magic on pretty much any bass sound, giving it extra weight courtesy of those 8-bits of companded audio 8)

As before there's a convolved Lexicon reverb, tons of control, additional effects and filters and envelopes... but with the neat option of turning all the bells and whistles off with a single click of the Vintage button, which reverts the whole instrument to 80s-authenticity. Click it again and all the additional stuff comes back, which we hope you'll find pretty cool :D

An audio demo is worth a thousand words, so do please head on over to the site and take a listen. Everything you need to know is here:

We saved the best bit for last, though. As usual we're offering a special time-limited launch price, which means you can get the Emulator II OMI Universe of Sounds Volume 2 for just £85 instead of the usual RRP of £99. Even better, though: as promised 6 months ago, we've reinstated the same offer for Volume 1, so if you were hanging back to see if we'd actually finish this marathon sampling effort (or just kill ourselves trying), you haven't lost out. Both launch price offers are available for the next couple of weeks, so grab yourself an early Christmas present... you know you deserve it! :hihi:

Finally, make sure you've got the full version of Kontakt 4.2.3 or later (Kontakt 5 fully supported; Kontakt Player not supported) and do please follow the download instructions on the website carefully.

Happy (mid-80s) music making!

Our launch prices usually run for a month or so – we're notoriously random / confused / laid-back about this sort of thing, though, so sometimes they go for longer! That said, if you buy it now, you won't be tempted to spend the cash on Christmas presents for your loved ones in the interim

Haha!! Great answer. I'm still recovering from Black Friday but if I had to live without food, heat, and hot water for a week or 2....

Thanks, guys! There's something a bit larger-than-life about the EII's sound, isn't there? It must have been such a HUGE blast, back in the 80s, to get your hands on a real, capable hardware sampler, and then go about creating all these wonderful patches for it... and just having fun with the technology, too. Playing instruments outside their proper ranges. Playing saxophones and monosynths polyphonically. Getting that analogue filter all over an "ordinary" sound and funking it up :D

I swear you can sense the fun the programmers were having in some of these patches: it still comes through, thirty years later!
