I am looking for something to replace Audition's multi-band compressor as my old copy of Audition does not run on win10 and it is too expensive for me to subscribe. I came across TB-FLX which looks to be a different approach to the same problem - basically a flexible EQ with per band dynamics.
http://www.toneboosters.com/tb-flx/
I have never used this type of processor before - it looks to be more useful for me than a multiband compressor (I make more soundscapes than pop music).
What are people's thoughts on this product?
Are there other similar products around at that sort of low price? At higher prices that are much better?
I will be testing TB FLX over the next day or so but would like to test other products if they are about
thanks, woggle

You might wanna have a look on TDR Nova:
http://www.tokyodawn.net/tdr-nova/
Free (you can upgrade to a "big" version but the free one is already very powerful).

thanks, but way out of my price range - what makes something like this better than the Toneboosters / TDR-Nova. Not doubting it isn't better, just I have no idea on understanding measurable quality of this stuffSeeingInMidi wrote:FabFilter Pro-MB is my go to multi-band compressor.
edit: just read a few reviews and I can see that Pro-MB has a lot of power and well thought out interface. Shame it isn't $50

I like and use TB Flx a lot. It is very capable for my uses. Very flexible.

This one is also excellent and very powerful (only thing still missing is look-a-head).

Seems to be 69€ or $79

thanks I have tested it and looks like it will do everything I need. Will compare to TDR Nova with Voxengo Span after it in the chain so I can see what is going on.gaf_thit wrote:I like and use TB Flx a lot. It is very capable for my uses. Very flexible.

looks good as well - even better when it comes around at 50% off. I have a few Melda plugins but have never really warmed to the interface - the multiband convolution in particularbmanic wrote:This one is also excellent and very powerful (only thing still missing is look-a-head).

Nova rocks. ToneBoosters FLX looks interesting but haven't tried.
Also check out Waves Manny Marroquin 'Tone Shaper' - it's a parallel multi-band comp. Can be found for $15-$20 in the KVR Marketplace.
You can get great results really fast with it because it's super simple and intuitive (use your ears).

thanks - I am finding both Nova and FLX pretty good and easy to use. Which means I will use Nova for a while until I understand it (as it is free ). Then see if I need something different.MogwaiBoy wrote:Nova rocks. ToneBoosters FLX looks interesting but haven't tried.

Another vote for Toneboosters FLX
It is excellent IMO and as with all of the Toneboosters plugs, it is very CPU efficient.
I tend to use the 4 input one (you get two versions with the license) as it has side-chain capability.

Why won't you delete this account as I have requested Ben ?

You can also check out Voxengo GlissEQ.
http://www.voxengo.com/product/glisseq/
It's another good dynamic EQ but at $90 I don't know if it's a really compelling alternative to FLX or Nova.

Consider me a convert to FlX. Until now I'd never really liked any of the dynamic EQs I've tried. But I was working on a remix project and found some harsh frequencies that I didn't want to just brute-force cut with a traditional EQ. FlX wrangled the beast like magic. It also acted as a kick-ass multiband compressor.

Toneboosters FIX indeed is the one! Been using it for years, tried all the others but always come back to it! I use it where others would as a MB comp(I find Dynamic EQ a more accurate idea in most areas) and de-essing plus you can use it as a tilt EQ, harmonic EQ, etc etc, very versatile, some features I never knew existed for the first couple of years with it!
Melda Dynamic EQ like mentioned above is the only real challenger IMO and does have soe cool features but I still prefer FIX.
