Let me start this discussion by summing up some general thoughts on how to create a concise information architecture in order to give new users a brief description of what the Mutools products are all about. I will refer to the MUX Modular synth in my following explanations but of course these will also be essential to Mulab.

Since the MUX is a commercial product and not freeware it is mandatory to point out what is so special about the MUX. What can it do what no other synth plugin can do? If a product doesn't have any unique selling points it's always hard to make customers curious and keep them motivated to find out more about it. In many cases products that are not unique in some special way can only be sold via a rediculously low price. And we all know that the plugin market is crowded with cheap plugins that will never be successful.
But fortunately MUX does have quite a few unique features. Some of these are:
  • Standard Oscillator has terrific unison features; much more sophisticated than you would expect from most virtual anlogue classified, non-modular machines
  • Multiform Oscillator features very complex, but easy to use wavetable synthesis and allows the use of sample grains; it's a combination of wavetables and granular synthesis you'll find nowhere else (if I'm wrong, please let me know)
  • MUX can be used as an effect plugin (which is not new) but since other VST-plugins can be used inside it's modular structure you can create even complex effect chains (serial or parralel) on one single track of your DAW. And by using the MUX filters you turn any standard effect into a multiband version. (Please note that this feature was recently introduced in version 3 of Presonus Studio One. And reviewers were raving about that feature. But with the MUX you can get this in any major DAW that supports VST.)
  • You can use any installed VST plugin as a module in the MUX modular structure. Why is this that important? Here's an example: I use Image Line's additive Morphine synth and one of its shortcomings is the lack of standard filter in it's signal chain because it's sound engine is completely additive (except for some effects). But the MUX can cure this: I can couple it with one of the MUX filter modules and I get what I want. Stellar feature!
  • Easy editable front panel - you don't have to be an expert to make your own configuration. And: Any preset can have it's own individual front panel design - matched to the most important tweaking parameters.
  • New paradigm of preset management: Presets are not split between lots of different machines - Sound comes first, not different machines.
So this leads me to my first statement: Video number 1 should give a brief overview of what's unique in MUX Modular. That's the biggest selling point. And it's important to show some practical examples of these unique features. At this point it is not so important to show the viewer in detail how it is done. But it's aboslutely important to hear some sounds utilizing the unique features you wouldn't achieve with most other synth plugins.
(The current MUX intro video tries to give an overview of almost everything the MUX can do - within about 2 minutes. This is simply too much information a viewer's mind can grab within a short perios of time. The main functionality of an introduction video should be to make the viewer curious to view more. Achieve that and you got him!)

So, perhaps M7 should be introduced with an overview video -- not just new features?

@ Michael: Yes, I think in case of the MUX it woudn't be the badest thing to integrate new features into an overview video if they are unique.
MUX isn't that popular so far and it may be that only few know what's so special about it. It is therefore not sufficient to post only new features.
But of course it would be helpful to make a video on the most important new features in addition to that. This happened already in the past I think. There are some videos at youtube posted by "MUX patches" that try to explain special features. But I'll refer to that later.

So let's assume Video 1 has been done, showing off some examples of unique features - what comes next?
I think making some specialised videos on each unique feature could be the next step. Some videos of that kind are already there:
  • The Multiform Oscillator and
  • The use of other VST plugins within MUX
  • An introduction to front panel design
But - don' t get me wrong, but I recommend to rework them. What's good about the MFO video is the teaser at the beginning: turning some sample material into something completely different. But the video does not turn out to be a making of that sound example shown at the beginning. And it also doesn't point out what's so special about the different controls of the Oscillator nor does it refer to the editing features of sample grains. In fact you could do some granular synthesis by setting up different sample grains and using the wave index control.
The next video does not refer to a real life scenario where the use of other plugins within MUX could make sense. I could imagine showing up some different strategies first: Using an other plugin as a sound generator, using it for it's scpecial filter characteristics or whatever. The show how this is achieved.
The introduction to frontpanel design is quite OK. May be one could show some more examples of how these panels can look at the end of the video.

There are some more videos posted by "MUX Patches". I don't know who made these, but I'm going to do some comments on these to show some best practices in making e-learning videos. I'm also going to discuss some well made examples from other companies to show the difference.
But not today. So I hope you stay tuned.

Regards, Wilfried

In my opinion, yes
I agree with DIGIFEX and I want to add a personal opinion
I think that MUX is a modular instrument unrivaled, many unique features already mentioned that no other instrument has ,adding that mutools have Excellent sound quality and amazing value for money and especially a exceptional customer support
this is what it has to show to potential new user in my opinion
I took me a while to understand this because there is a lack of information
a new M7 movies divided into different parts with a total overview of all aspects of mutools help a lot
personally I would prefer also something in pdf it's a little more comfortable for those who have very basic English like me and learn only from a video is very difficult and creates too much distraction from the software but that's probably just my problem.

MUX has replaced the 90% of my plugins(high quality plugins) and this has also convinced me to change daw, and switch to mulab (I'm waiting for M7 to do this but already totally convinced)because starting from MUX you find yourself very well to work in MULAB and can thus work in parallel even with another daw without having any problem
MULAB has unique features and a fantastic workflow ,for example the first things that come to mind are MuClips truly unique function, ultra precise parameter editing(Also for vst with the focused parameter editor) drag and drop anywhere..etc.I think this should be shown

maybe a little off topic but I would say one thing I discovered mulab and mux thanks to Bedroom Producers Blog not here on kvr I think has really missing are a couple of good reviews here on kvr and DIGIFLEX has already said this in another thread
(I would write one but my English is bad)
another very important thing is missing are some audio examples made by us users :)
MUTOOLS need a lot more advertising
many products advertised ad nauseam not even reach half the quality of MULAB/MUX
I think the most anticipated feature for M7 is audio rate modulation and with this feature MUX will have a great success among the synth lover (and not only) and consequently also MULAB
but probably a 360-degree panoramic it is really necessary to place mutools, in the category that deserves

forgive me for my bad English

Please forgive me too! (Forgot to mention my clumsy English.)

:) the important thing is to understand each other after all

One important thing completely overlooked so far on youtube is the ability to load vsts, chain them and build panels in mutools. Nyrv agent is winning the race so far but if mutools had automatic pdc and some teaser videos that could easily change. Nebula users for instance would love this feature but nebula has heaps of plugin delay.

Good evening,

I am a brand new unexperienced user of mulab and I feel that video tutorials are much too fast for beginners like me.

Is'nt there anything else existing more convenient for such cases ?

I find it's best to watch while doing it yourself, and hit pause after every step. Then you can get a hands-on understanding of the design.
