Hi:
Where do I get presets or SFZ files for famous songs?

Songs such Tom Sawyer, Jump, Axl F, Final Countdown etc

Bagpipe intro for Copperhead Road?

Do I use Synth to create these sounds from scratch?
Or are these presets available for importing into a Synth such as Synth1?

An interesting idea! Sometimes you see preset collections with individual patches that are "inspired by" certain soundtracks or songs, but I don't think I've ever seen a collection devoted to replicating a track. It'd be even more challenging because all the sounds for a track would need to come from one machine. On the other hand chances are you wouldn't need more than half a dozen sounds... Perhaps this could be a "mini patch set" concept?

Okay, I don't mean to be insulting, but I just want to make sure we're on the same page here: you are aware that all of those classic sounds were not made by some soundfonts on a laptop, right? If you're just looking to recreate them, fine. But the way you phrased the question sort of implies an assumption that the opening synth from Tom Sawyer was made in a VSTi like Synth1. I would HOPE you understand that when Rush recorded that song in 1981, barely anyone owned a computer in their homes, and there was no such thing as DAWs or plugins...

Your best bet is to look on Youtube for tutorials on how to program those sounds. There may be presets out there, but they are most likely buried in packs and would be difficult for you to seek out, e.g. there's one inspired by Van Halen's jump that comes stock with u-he Diva, but if you searched for that sound specifically you'd have difficulty finding it.

If SonicProjects OP-X PRO-II will work on your computer, then there are a huge amount of famous presets included. The most amount of any VSTi I'm aware of.

Thanks.

If you have a Mac... you could pick up MainStage for $29... and add this set, which is built on Logic/Mainstage included synths. Rob has also posted patches for 2000 and beyond songs, and another collection. All of them around $20 for the sets.

If you have the Roland FA-06/FA-08 hardware synth, you can get most of these same sounds free off a FaceBook page where I have shared 20+ Studio Sets for that Roland Synth.

You can find Jump, Final Countdown, etc. patches in GoldBank and Greenkbank banks:

Or just download over 14.000 presets for Synth1 here:

and you'll find many recreations of famous sounds in those banks.

I think, Synth1 is a good scource (especially the goldbank - but there are too many
to mention).
But for soundfonts I had a site in my mind - d´loaded in 2008 many SF2-files for
famous songs (Emulations, Loops, Samples in SF2-format).
Had a look in my cd-archive and here´s the adress:
It´s still active - i was surprised....:

Famous songs of the past, I know, but eventually a good source for something....
