Since it will run under a 64-bit DAW and read the Proteus VX files, I'd consider buying it for all the Proteus-based projects I did years ago.

Steve
There's still a semi-legit way to get it from Digital Pro Audio Samples.

He is a great guy and likely a former E-MU employee.
"Semi-legit"? Lol! Erm...okay....

Well, as E-MU is not officially selling nor supporting X3 anymore it's the only place you can get it. And you do get an unique serial that will activate and proper ISO images from install disks. But as he makes clear this product is discontinued and sold "as is". So if you want it or if you need new installers for the some of the E-MU libraries it's as good as it gets. DPAS has been around for a very long time selling E-MU parts and gear.

Only other place where you can get it is from warez sites.

oh wow that's very interesting, I was quite sure I had missed the train for good with X3...
I wonder if it runs well in Kore... wouldn't mind having a big sampler in there that's less lame than kontakt
is the factory sound bank option recommended? I'm quite fond of old ass, cheesy mid-90s-ish sounds...

I can tweak the control but it doesnt have any effect until a new note
ie its not realtime.

So tweaking the knob on the plugin changes the sound in realtime but tweaking the knob in the DAW does nothing while a note is playing.
So is there a workaround for this?

I have the free EMU Proteus VX that behaves in the same odd way, moving the controller buttons that I manually mapped to the macros in Bitwig Studio does not make any changes to the sound when the sound has already been triggered. E.g. filter cutoff 127 change to 0 while holding notes down on keyboard will not do anything to the sound. Playing with the cutoff and retriggering the notes will play back the notes with the cutoff value of that moment. If I record a clip and modify the values using track automation, it seems to be responding in real time though.. :?

Care to tel us why because in my experience Windows is superior in terms of ease of use, software availability and supported drivers.

Besides the fact The software discussed isn't Linux native

doh!

So, anyone using X3 successfully in Windows 10?

I'm still on Win 8.1, but of course, can't stay there forever. It would be nice to know I won't have to abandon X3 when the time comes....

Out of curiosity, are you running the 32-bit version of Bitwig or the 64-bit version?

Bitwig doesn't seem to have a bit specific version, i'm guessing it is in 64 bit mode

I found a solution which is not elegant, but it works. CC rider did it for me as well:
