Hi. I just DLed Audacity yesterday. I'd like to use it in conjunction with my new M-audio Fast Track interface but I don't think Audacity is recognizing the unit. Any advice?
BTW, I run Windows 7, 64 bit.

Slightly hard to say without more info. But Audacity doesnt support ASIO, so you'll need to use a different driver type.
my other modular synth is a bugbrand

From Audacity themselves:
"Licensing restrictions prevent us including ASIO support in released versions of Audacity, but Audacity can be compiled with ASIO support for private, non-distributable use. This page summarises ASIO licensing issues and steps to compile Audacity with ASIO support. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/ASIO_Audio_Interface"
That a great little device. I would suggest to get a copy of Ableton Live Lite and call it a day. You can probably ask nicely to some of the guys in the forums to give you a copy seeing as they get them free all the time.

Audacity should be able to work with the standard Windows audio system (I don't know what's its name, I don't work with that o.s.)... I think Audacity has an option to choose the soundcard in the preferences, so you should look if it's set to to internal sound or whatever else than your Fast Track or the system audio.
So, you shouldn't strictly need ASIO (though it has some advantages).
Anyway, I would probably look elsewhere, any "lite" (ex: Live Lite) or cheap (ex: Reaper) is probably a better choice. Or, if you want an audio editor, I'd try Wavosaur.

Yeah, as above had said- Windows should find an M-Audio card's driver, then Audacity will as well.
Another way would be to run another host such as Savihost, and install VB cable, then have Audacity use VB cable as the audio input.

Audacity did not recognize my Fast Track Pro either, nothing appeared in the audio device menu. So I installed Acoustica Basic instead, works like a charm and free.

Me thinks Audacity works only (or best) with the default audio device.
So you can try to go to the Windows Control Panel for audio, change your default recording & playback device to be something else than onboard audio, and then try again. Audacity should pick it up automagically.
