For people who want a “tape delay” sound right now, here’s an ÜberMod preset from Sean. To save people a click:
<ValhallaUberMod pluginVersion="1.0.2dot9" presetName="WarpedTapeVerb" Mix="1" Depth="0.041999999433755874634" StereoWidth="0.5" Delay="0.050599999725818634033" Feedback="0.64800000190734863281" Spread="0.5" Slope="0.5" Skew="0.5" Random="0" TapGain="0.5" Diffusion="0.43200001120567321777" DiffSize="0.42040815949440002441" DiffModRate="0.39239239692687988281" DiffModDepth="0.14399999380111694336" LowCut="0.1407035142183303833" HighCut="0.20753769576549530029" SpatialXover="0.14572864770889282227" DetuneRate="0.049049049615859985352" DetuneDepth="0" VibratoRate="0.93433582782745361328" VibratoDepth="0.075999997556209564209" OverMod="0" DriveInGain="0.44583332538604736328" DriveOutGain="0.75" DriveNoiseGain="0.4822222292423248291" FeedbackRotate="1" SmoothingTime="0.54134136438369750977" ColorMode="1" DelaySync="0" type="0.041666667908430099487" DiffEnable="1" Drive="1" DrivePrePost="0" Speed="1" InputPan="0"/>
Warped tape reverb. A few usage tips:
- Turn down the FEEDBACK slider a bit for shorter decays
- Turn up the DEPTH slider slightly to get some pinch roller flutter in there
- The DIFF->Diffusion control can be turned up to get a smoother reverb. I was going for something a bit more grainy and tape echoish.

Ubermod is great for delays, it just doesn't say 'delay' in the product title...

A few thoughts:
- EchoBoy isn't really "simple." It just looks simple in the default view. Open up the Tweak menu, and there's a lot of stuff in there.
- A Valhalla delay plugin would have to capture the dynamic behavior of older delay devices, versus simply the static sound. Things have to ramp up and down at the right speed. The tone changes with the delay time. The wow and flutter rate and depth may or may not vary according to the delay. That sort of thing.
- Self-oscillation is critical. Part of the fun of a Deluxe Memory Man, or Boss DM-2, or Space Echo, is using it as a sound generator.
- The saturation of older delays is considerably different than what I have going on in ÜberMod or FreqEcho. In both BBD units (such as the Memory Man) and tape delays, playing a really loud sound into a self-oscillating delay will "squeeze out" the signal that was previously recirculating inside the delay.
- I would have to have a lot of physical delay devices that I could work with, in order to properly model things. Oh, wait:

Well that's a wink wink.
Already competition though: http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/d16 ... ion-642891
How is that likely to affect things?

There's always competition for this sort of stuff. Lord knows there are a lot of reverb plugins out there as well.knowix wrote:Well that's a wink wink.

Someday. Not sure when, or where it stands in the release schedule. These things always take much longer than I think they would, with the exception of SpaceModulator, which came together really quickly.HcDoom wrote:Ok, great, there you go...so Valhalla Delay will see the light of the day!!!

Any chance a delay like the one you're describing could also include a simple spring reverb for some Space Echo-like goodness? I know you've said in the past that impulses do a good job if mimicking springs, but there's something awesome about a simple spring reverb when combined with tape delay. Having it all in one plugin would be killer.valhallasound wrote:Someday. Not sure when, or where it stands in the release schedule. My question would be whether he'll go as fas as "sound on sound"
