So what do you all want to do next month?

I had all these great ideas about everyone submitting 2-3 seconds of audio and then doing something in the style of the great Copy and Paste greats with all of those snippets but then I got sick and now I'm just really tired because it's almost November.

So... Any ideas? :phones:

More ideas:

- Hyperactivity (as the antithesis to meditation)

- Variations on a theme by Justin Bieber

- Distort yourself!

- Casio orchestra --- orchestral / mock-classical / chamber music compositions played on obivously artificial software emulations of acoustic instruments. The more artificial, the better!

Well, I guess it will work even better with a midi file, imho....
(more freedom and diversity)
So... Any ideas? :phones:
I believe through the years all my suggestions & ideas had been used: raw, recycled or combined :-?
I remember a couple of good themes proposed inside the August gossip thread

Post

Snipped these ideas from August:

Laguna Rising
- Maximalism (complex arrangement)
- No lead lines (with instruments)
- Trascend definitions (beyond any recognizable genre)
- Alien religion hymn
- Tv/Radio-Ad music (advertise an item = music for a commercial)
- Inspired by a dream
- Futuristic / Time Machine (future sound of Kvr)
- Transition (changing mood/arrangement/style/genre/sound,etc)
- Hypnotic

Kryptonaut
Something Shakespearean, it being the 400th year since he died.
Something inspired by the creation story of your choice of religion.
Something inspired by the 'end of days' scenario from a religion of your choice.
Simplicity - beauty without complexity.
Something using 'unorthodox' scales or microtonality.
Composition featuring 'found sounds'.

Hypnotic and Simplicity would be too close to October's theme, though.

Post

Western movie score.

Post

Well, many good themes had already been used, but we can recycle the best one adding limitations or requirements (for example: one synth only, or the use of musical theory rules (pedal point, through-composition, etc))

We welcome every new suggestion or fresh, new idea

These are the last 176 themes (grabbed from the HOF) :

have to think it over :?

Post

How about something using exactly one instrument sound. So either just all piano, all {fave sysnth sound}, all a single drum sound.

Lets see how people manage with such a restriction!

Hmmm Aziraphael would walk this if he's still looking in :D
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently now an 'elderly' so maybe I forgot!

Post

There was a Bob Moog RIP. Seems fitting to make this a Don Buchla RIP.

Post

Given that it's a shorter month, how would people feel about a shorter track-length limit, just for November (to offset the longer tracks from this month). I like the theme of hyperactivity (or just "activity") as well as the one instrument/patch limitation. Not for everyone, but it could produce some interesting pieces (and maybe a lot of multi-tracked kazoo). From watching "I Dream of Wires" I gather that Buchla's instruments were sometimes largely about programming a patch and letting it run (if that's not right, don't blame me, blame the movie :ud: ) so maybe there's a chance to tie some of that in too.

November -> Activity -> One instrument/patch -> 2-minute "retroKVR" limit -> Buchla?????

:tu: for Buchla

Buchla sounds like fun, already are thinking of ideas.

The only limitations is your mind.

Post

Cool! To be honest, I'm not intimately familiar with Buchla's life or his gear. I'll do some quick research and see if there's some extra twist we can put on the contest that would make it appeal to the non-synthesists in the group. Perhaps a tape music angle?

I was hopping that necessary dosen't have to be à synth, Could be any instrument.

I don't know who Buchla is eaither.

Google "Buchla samples" to get Buchla sounds without synths. Depending on how the theme is defined, a song about Buchla (or not knowing anything about him and his work) would be valid. Or in time-honoured KVR contest fashion, just make a track with no apparent connection to the theme and hope for the best.

Never too late to learn, and it's never been easier to learn than it is now.
