I"m using a new 2016 MacBook pro with an Audiobox USB and having the strangest audio problem.

All of my MIDI sounds work fine but my actual audio sources (like a guitar or microphone) are delayed and sound really bad.

If I play a note on the guitar it comes in like 200ms late, and it has a lot of white noise in it and sounds very weak. The same interface, guitar, settings, work fine on my 2013 MacBook Pro. It's definitely frustrating having to put the 2016 model away and work with the 2013 model.

Any ideas of what the problem could be? Maybe the audio box USB 2.0 interface is just not compatible with the new computers?

For anyone with the same problem, I sort of solved it:

I bought a Scarlett 2i2 2nd generation and it works fine.

I guess there is just a compatibility problem with either macOS Sierra -- or just the new MacBook pros in general with AudioBox
